Man Charged With Stealing Gas At Ingles
People who drive off from local
gas stations without paying are
seldom arrested, but a Statham
man was one of the unlucky ones,
according to the Commerce Police
Department.
Documents there say Jason
Cleveland Suber, 27, of 2049
Dooley Town Road, Statham, left
the new Ingles Express gas sta
tion on Hwy. 334 without paying
for his gasoline.
As a Commerce officer respond
ed, he learned that a Jackson
County deputy had Suber stopped
on U.S. 441 north of Nicholson.
The report said the officer
charged Suber with three counts
of gasoline theft, although there
was no explanation of the other
two charges. The report indicated
that the deputy charged Suber
with disorderly conduct, and that
Madison County also has charges
against him.
Other Arrests
Others arrested by the
Commerce police during the past
week include the following:
•Ricky Dale Adams, 46, 7536
County Line Road, Lula, driv
ing under the influence (DUI)
of drugs, no insurance and driv
ing with a suspended registration.
The report indicated that police
were on the lookout for Adams,
who had allegedly received “a
large amount of medicine” at BJC
Medical Center and drove away
after treatment. An officer spot
ted the vehicle, determined that
its registration was suspended and
pulled Adams over. The report
said Adams was “jerky” and “agi
tated” and that he mentioned
that he knew both State Court
Solicitor Don Moore and County
Magistrate Billy Chandler.
•Randy Dillard Owensby, 48,
Route 4, Box 425-A, Danielsville,
DUI-alcohol and driving with a
suspended license. The arrest
came as an officer responded to
a complaint of a “suspicious per
son” driving a red Neon — which
is what Owensby was driving.
•Charles Tyrone Hill, 18, P.O.
Box 1612, Jefferson, aggravated
stalking, after he allegedly vio
lated the conditions of his bond
by going to Commerce High
School, where he gave the “vic
tim” a birthday card containing
a $100 bill.
•Bonnie Jean Reynolds, 37,
109 Grace Drive, Jefferson, ter
roristic threats and acts. The
charges stem from calls she
allegedly made to a Commerce
woman to whom Reynolds’
two children had been given by
the Department of Lamily and
Children Services. The report
indicated that Reynolds threat
ened to “beat the (expletive delet
ed) out of both of you” in refer
ence to the complainant and her
daughter, and warned that “You
better lock your (expletive delet
ed) door tonight.” The report
also indicated that Arcade police
filed charges against her.
•Willie Lee Coats, 44, 48 Park
Street, Commerce, battery, cru
elty to children and criminal tres
pass after he allegedly got into a
fight over use of her vehicle with
his live-in girlfriend in front of her
three children.
•Kevin Brian Pruitt, 28, 3688
Hwy. 198, Homer, arrested on
unspecified Banks County war
rants after he allegedly threatened
to kill himself. He was taken to
BJC Medical Center for evalua
tion.
• Kristena Morrow-Johnson, 20,
4518 Simsbury Road, Charlotte,
NC, picked up on a probation
violation warrant.
Juvenile Steals, Huffs Compressed Air, Gets Caught
In what was a relatively quiet
week, the Commerce Police
Department investigated four
theft-related cases.
They apprehended a juvenile
white male who allegedly shoplift
ed a container of Dust-Off com
pressed air and “huffed” it shortly
before a bystander apprehended
him.
The incident did not indicate
whether charges were filed.
It began with a call to CVS
Pharmacy, but en route to the
call, the officer was told that a
bystander had the suspect in cus
tody.
The witness told police that the
suspect had flagged him down
and tried to get in his car. Next
to him on the seat was the con
tainer.
The suspect was taken to BJC
Medical Center for evaluation.
Dust-Off is a commercial prod
uct designed for cleaning elec
tronics. It contains compressed
air and a propellant that kids
“huff” (inhale) to get high — which
has resulted in some fatalities.
The store clerk told the officer
that the young man entered the
store, asked where to find the “air
cleaner,” but when she showed it
to him, he said it was “too high”
and walked off. Minutes later, the
clerk saw the suspect with the
product in the back of his pants.
When she told him to take it out,
he ran out of the store.
Other incidents requiring police
attention last week include:
•theft of $44.25 in gasoline
from the Ingles Express, Hwy.
334, by a white male with blond
hair in his mid-30s driving a gold
Chrysler. The clerk got a partial
tag number.
• a burglary at a Maysville
Road business where a 67-year-
old white male said someone
broke in through the garage doors
and stole copper from electrical
boxes.
•fraud reported by a 54-year-
old Latino female who told police
she went to Jackson Hewitt to
file her income tax return and
was told that someone using her
name, Social Security and other
information had already filed the
return and gotten the tax refund
check.
•harassing calls at Crossing
Place Apartments, Steve Reynolds
Industrial Parkway, where an
18-year-old black female said she’d
received two calls, the nature of
which were not specified. She
gave police the names of two pos
sible callers.
•a report of a runaway juve
nile from an Ash Street address.
The child was later found nearby
and returned to his mother’s cus
tody.
