The woman told police that her
daughter came in and said a man
in a maroon minivan tried to
make her get into the vehicle.
The male looked for the vehicle,
found it in a driveway at the
corner of Ridgeway Street and
Ridgeway Drive, and assaulted
the driver, hitting him in the head
with a beer bottle.
The man told police that the
driver put the van in reverse, and
when he put it in drive again, ran
him over.
There was no report of the extent
of his injuries, but Barrett was
charged with aggravated assault
and driving with a suspended
license.

he was advised “by radio" to
stop.
In the second case, the driver
was reported to be a white male
who first attempted to pre-pay
for gasoline at the pump with
a credit card. When he could
not get the card authorized, he
entered the store and gave it
to the clerk who, according to
company policy, pre-authorized
a $40 charge for gas. After the
man put the fuel in and discov
ered that the credit card would
not be authorized, he “flew out"
of the building and drove off
toward 1-85. The investigating
officer said he called the VISA
customer service and learned
that the credit card had been lost
or stolen. He said he could get
no more information out of VISA
“because of a language barrier
between the customer service
representative and myself."
