EJES Selected For Bus
Trip Highlighting Excellence
East Jackson Elementary School
was selected by the Georgia
Partnership for Excellence in
Education as a stop on the 16th
Annual Georgia Bus Trip Across
Georgia.
The tour showcases achieving
public schools and shares best
practices with educators, busi
ness, government and community
leaders from around the state.
Schools selected as stops have
a proven track record of academ
ic excellence, educational innova
tion and sustained performance.
“East Jackson Elementary
School boasts outstand
ing CRCT results that are well
above state averages,’’ said Dr.
Stephen Dolinger, president of
the partnership. He explained the
school has met Adequate Yearly
Progress (AYP) for four consecu
tive years and has been a Title 1
Distinguished School for the last
two years.
Dolinger added that East
Jackson Elementary, as well as the
other 2008 bus trip schools, rep
resents what is right in Georgia’s
public education system.
“In the case here, our bus trip
participants will see a strong ele
mentary program that is doing
an outstanding job preparing stu
dents for middle and high school
and beyond,’’ he said.
The partnership president
explained that the annual visits
accomplish two things.
“While we are bringing much
deserved recognition to these
schools, their school systems, and
supportive communities, we are
also showcasing best practices to
influencers who might adopt or
adapt some of these great ideas
for use in their own communi
ties,’’ Dolinger said.
He also explained another objec
tive is to provide decision makers
an opportunity to see how policy
impacts the classroom.
“Education decisions made at
the state level will ultimately reach
the grassroots level,’’ Dolinger
said. “It is important for these
leaders to see firsthand the results
of their actions.’’
The event will be conducted
in two, three-day increments in
October and November. The
first leg of the trip will visit
six north Georgia schools Oct.
28-30, followed by another six
schools on a southern swing,
Nov. 18-20.
The East Jackson stop is sched
uled Oct. 30. More than 200
riders and local site visitors are
expected to participate over the
entire schedule.
Joining East Jackson Elementary
School on the north route are the
Central Education Center, Coweta
County; 12 for Life, Carroll
County; Marietta High School,
Cobb County; the Hudgens-
Gwinnett Tech Early Education
Center, Gwinnett County; and
Pickens County Middle School,
Pickens County.
Play In Honors Band
Eight sixth-grade students from East Jackson Middle
School were recently selected for the 2008 Georgia Music
Educators Association (GMEA) District 13 Beginning Band
Clinic. The top first-year band students from northeast
Georgia were chosen to participate in the event, held May 3 at
Carver Middle School in Walton County. Left to right are, front,

Newton Gilman Wins Essay Contest
Newton Gilman was recently named the Second District winner of
the Georgia Farm Bureau Federation’s middle school essay contest.
A student at East Jackson Middle School, Gilman received a $75
cash prize for being the top winner from Georgia Farm Bureau’s
second district. He is the son of Greg and Charlotte Gilman.
A winner was selected from each of the organization’s 10 districts.
The state winner was chosen from the 10 district winners. In 250
words or less, students were asked to address the importance of
Georgia agriculture to them personally, their community, the state
and the world. Essays were judged on clarity of thought and creative
ness. The contest was open to any student in sixth to eighth grade.
The Georgia Farm Bureau Women’s Committee coordinated the
statewide contest. Locally, the Jackson County Farm Bureau coor
dinated the contest.

On this Memorial Day,
we honor those who have given
their lives
defending our way of life.
As we remember their
sacrifices,
we appreciate more than ever
their willingness to risk
their own lives for our country.
God bless them and God bless
America!
