absolutely had to have it,” observed Fire Chief

7-Year-Old Killed In ATV Mishap
By Kerri Testement
A seven-year-old child died
Monday evening in what one
official called a “tragic accident’’
in Braselton.
Maj. David Cochran of the
Jackson County Sheriff’s Of
fice said Michael Samples was
killed when the ATV he was
riding on with two other juve
niles went under the trailer of a
parked tractor trailer at a Dav
enport Road address.
Samples apparently failed to
duck his head when the four-
wheeler went under the trailer
and was killed instantly, ac
cording to the Jackson County
Department of Emergency Ser
vices.
The other children involved
in the accident — a 5-year-old
brother of the victim and a
10-year-old female driver re
ceived minor injuries, and were
treated at the scene, Cochran
reported.
Cochran said the Jackson
County Sheriff’s Office doesn’t
plan to press charges against
anyone. The parents were on
the property at the time of the
incident, he said.
