Joyce Barnett, second from right, was hon
ored at the East Jackson Elementary School
yearbook signing for her 25 years of service to
the Jackson County School System. The year
book was dedicated in her honor. Looking on

Dean's List
Hunter J. Roop, Commerce,
was named to the dean’s list
for spring semester at Coastal
Carolina University in Conway,
SC.
Beardsley Gets Master's From Columbia
Steven Beardsley graduated from Columbia University in New York
City recently, receiving a master’s degree in journalism.
A native of Commerce, he is the son of Barbara and Mark Beardsley,
is a graduate of Commerce High School and the University of Georgia,
from which he received a bachelor’s degree in comparative literature.
He is employed by the Naples (FL) Daily News as a crime reporter.
Young Authors
Several kindergarten students in Wendy
Dillow and Teresa Boggs’ class at East
Jackson Elementary School recently had
their writing pieces published. Left to right
are Abigail Johnson, Leah Anderson, Grace
Palmer and Kaycie Malcolm. The four stu
dents chose a piece of their writing, edited,
revised and published the final copy with
illustrations. The books were put on display
in the school’s media center for students and
staff to provide “Book Reviews” of the pub
lished works.
