Learning Center Holds
'Completers' Reception'
The Jackson County Certified
Literate Community Program
hosted its annual Jackson County
Adult Learning Center com
pleters’ reception and National
Adult Education Honor Society
induction ceremony June 3. The
event was held at the Commerce
Lanier Technical College cam
pus.
Students from all adult educa
tion classes were honored for
their completion levels for the
year. One, two and three-level
completion certificates were
awarded to the students.
Twelve students were inducted
into the honor society reflect
ing their level of excellence in
their studies and in attendance
of classes.
Those inducted were James
Richard Bryson, Christopher
Lee Cartee, Linda B. Doss,
Heath Andrew Hewell, Bilal Jalil,
Christopher L. Mincey, Mirna
Haidee Sartana, Zachariah
Bare, Katie Christina Patterson,
Chris Gamble, Dale Phillips and
Rigoberto Sandoval.
Sandoval was also presented
an American flag by his ESOL
instructor, Michael Hinkle, for his
work in becoming a U.S. citizen.
During the evening, Sandra Fite
presented the welcome and Joy
Bates made introductions. The
two presented the completers’
certificates. Fite also recog
nized the volunteers. Bates, Lisa
Prescott and Hinkle inducted the
honor society members, and Irma
Johnson conducted the pinning.
Fite gave closing remarks.
Local Students Graduate From Brenau
Several local students received degrees at the Brenau University com
mencement exercises June 6. They include

Mitchell Shirley, bachelor of science in nursing; Charles Lewis Thornton,

Shirley Bailey Williamson, master of business administration; Shawanna
G. Greene, master of education; Anetra LaDawn Pattman, master of edu
cation; and Lachanda Felice Brown, master of sciences; and Katherine
Sue Holley, bachelor’s degree in music.

Catherine Morris Graduates From MCG
Catherine Morris of Commerce graduated May 9 from the Medical
College of Georgia.
She received a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
Two Make Dean's List At Tech
Two local students at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, were
named to the spring semester dean’s list.
They are Cody David, Nicholson, and Saeed Beituni of Commerce.
To receive that honor, they had to earn a 3.0 or higher grade point aver
age for the semester.
