They will be married Saturday,

Ground.
Miss Knupp is a 2006 graduate
of the University of Georgia, from
which she received a bachelor’s
degree in science communication
disorders. She is continuing her
education at Auburn University in
the field of audiology.
Mr. Baskett is a 1999 graduate
of Jefferson High School and a
2006 graduate of the University of

grounds management.
He is a supervisor at Post
Properties in Atlanta.
Feeling bugged by summer’s
heat and humidity? The library
can bug you in a whole new
way: with an insect show courtesy
of Sandy Creek Nature Center
Thursday at 2 p.m.
The show is the centerpiece of a
wrap-up party as the library ends
its series of special Thursday-
afternoon programs that highlight
the Vacation Reading Club. Also
featured at the party will be the
awarding of certificates for read
ing achievement and the serving
of “bug juice” and cake.
There’s still time to sign up for
the Vacation Reading Club, for
children who haven’t already
done so, and incentive prizes for
summer reading will continue to
be awarded until the day before
school starts.
Library Camp Pizza Party
Youngsters who are doing their
summer reading in the young-
adult track (reading books of at
least 150 pages) and have read
at least 18 books by July 17 will
qualify to attend a pizza party
that evening, beginning at 5:30.

30, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital,
Athens. He weighed six pounds,
11 ounces and was 19 1/4 inches
long.
The grandparents are Diane
and Ronny Knight, Commerce.
Louise Knight, Lavonia, is the
great-grandmother, and the great-
great-grandparents are Nellie
Dempsey, Bethlehem; and Ola
Dale Scruggs, Toccoa.
Tickets are awarded as a prize
for reading 18 books, and the
evening will include pizza, soft
drinks and a movie.
News On Tape To
Celebrate Anniversary
The Commerce News on Tape,
the library’s unique program of
providing local news to people
with visual impairments, will cel
ebrate its 13th anniversary next
month.
Begun in 1995 at the suggestion
of Inez Jackson, the program has
operated continuously ever since,
with a volunteer reading the local
weekly newspaper onto audio-
tape and then making copies for
all who have expressed an inter
est or a need.
Currently, the voice of the
Commerce News on Tape is
Mary Wood, who also serves on
the library’s board.
All who are interested in know
ing more about the program or
signing up for it are invited to call
the library at 706-335-5946.
New Books On The Shelves
There’s something for everyone
in the latest crop of books to
reach the library. Mystery-lovers
will want to chill with Michael
Stanley’s “A Carrion Death,”
Jeffery Deaver’s “The Broken
Window,” and Catherine Coulter’s
FBI thriller, “Tail Spin.”
Those who enjoy reading in
Large Print will welcome James
Patterson’s latest, “7th Heaven,”
Danielle Steel’s “Honor Thyself,”
and John Grisham’s “The
Appeal.”
For light romantic comedy,
there’s Jennifer Crusie’s “Bet Me,”
and for finding ways to entertain
the youngest set this summer,
there’s “The Everything Toddler
Activities Book.” Looking for a
good novel? Try Nancy Clark’s
aptly titled “July and August,” or
Joyce Carol Oates’ “My Sister,
My Love.” For a bestseller that
earned the honor, check out Rick
Bragg’s newest book, “The Prince
of Frogtown” — which inspired
his fellow Southern author Pat
Conroy to say, “I knew I was read
ing one of the best books I’ve
ever read ... I’d never met Rick
Bragg in my life, but I called him
up and told him he’d written a
masterpiece, and I sent flowers to
his mother.”
Looking for the most unusual
book of the summer? That would
probably be “The Story of Edgar
Sawtelle,” by David Wroblewski,
in which a young man who has
been mute his whole life must flee
for his life and reveal his father’s
murderer to the world. Stephen
King said, “I closed the book with
that regret readers feel only after
experiencing the best stories: 'It’s
over,’ you think, 'and I won’t read
another one this good for a long,
long time.”'

JULY 4th... As Americans
celebrate, we do so under the
shadow of war. On September 11,
2001, "a day that will go down in
infamy", we declared war on
“terrorism." The U. S. now leads a
world-wide "coalition of the just" to
do battle against this sinister and
deadly enemy.
Children and young people in
America also face a sinister enemy
in the form of ungodliness that has
been unleashed upon our youth.
Athens Christian School is here
to help families educate their
children well, but also to help fortify
them against the wiles of the devil.
