Kelley Moore To Marry

Moore of Commerce announce
the engagement and forthcoming
marriage of their daughter, Kelley
Rene Moore, to Joshua Ray Mc
Dougald, son of Jacky and Evelyn
McDougald of Oakwood.
The couple will be united in mar
riage Wednesday, Dec. 31,2008, at
Mulberry Baptist Church.
Miss Moore is the granddaugh
ter of Leonard Queen, Atlanta;
Shirley McAdams, Lawrenceville;
and Bonnel and Jim Mulkey of
Canton.
She is a graduate of West
Hall High School and attended
Gainesville State College and La
nier Technical College.
Mr. McDougald is the grand
son of John O. and Annie Belle
McDougald, Llowery Branch;
and Harold and Annie Banks of
Gainesville.
He attended West Hall High
School.
Plans Revealed For Standridge Reunion
The 12th annual Standridge National Lamily reunion will be held Lri-
day and Saturday, Sept. 19-20, at the Holiday Inn, 400 East Butler Park
way, Gaineville.
Sponsored by the Standridge National Lamily Historical Society, the
event will draw from more than 600 descendants of a number of inter
related colonial families who trace their roots to Maryland before 1775.
The family lived in Rowan County, NC, until the American Revolution,
then moved to Oconee County, SC, from where they spread out across
Lranklin, Habersham, Hall, White, Dawson and Lumpkin counties.

Hats To Be Subject When
Retired Educators Meet Thursday
“Hats Make the Lady" will be the
topic for the July 10 meeting of the
Jackson County Retired Educa
tors. The group will meet at 1:30
p.m. at the Gordon Street Center,
Jefferson.
Andrea Tjemkema, who has a
master’s degree in fashion mer
chandising from the University
of Georgia and wrote her thesis
on the subject of “Hats Make the
Lady," will present the program.
Tjemkema has been an adminis
trator at Lanier Technical College
and in the fashion industry for 15
years. Presently she is in public
relations for a hospice program in
Gainesville and models for Mary’s.
She is married to the chaplain for
St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens.
All retired educators are invited
to attend and to wear a hat.
Airman Scott Leuthner Completes
U.S. Army's Ranger School Training
Army Capt. Scott D. Leuth
ner has graduated from the U.S.
Army Ranger School at Lort
Benning, Columbus, with autho
rization to wear the distinctive
Ranger Tab.
He is the son of Ron and Cher
yl Leuthner of Crabapple Hollow
Road in Nicholson.
During the 61-day course,
Leuthner proved that he could
successfully accomplish all re
quired tasks during the three
phases of training. The course
is designed to assess and devel
op military skills, physical and
mental endurance, stamina, and
confidence of the soldier to suc
cessfully accomplish small unit
combat missions. The training
is tough and realistic, and is con
ducted in three terrains — wood
ed, mountainous, and jungle-
swamp. The soldier is trained to
withstand the stresses of combat
and overcome all obstacles to
accomplish the mission under
any circumstance or situation
and to properly sustain himself
and his subordinates and main
tain equipment under difficult
field conditions during simulated
combat operations. Leuthner, an
infantry officer, is assigned to the
199th Infantry Brigade, Lort Ben
ning. The captain has served in
the military for five years.
In 1997, Leuthner graduated
from Salem High School, Cony
ers, and received a bachelor’s de
gree in 2001 from North Georgia
College, Dahlonega.

Annual Picnic In Talmo July 17
The Jackson County Historical
Society will hold its annual picnic
and a program at 6 p.m. Thursday,
July 17, at Talmo.
Members are asked to bring
folding chairs for a picnic on the
grounds of city hall.
At 6:45, Carol Murphy Hol-
zhalb will present a program on
“How Trains Have Affected Life
in Jackson County.’’ Several men
who worked on the Gainesville
Midland Railroad will be available
to talk and answer questions. Jim
Baughman will display his collec
tion of railroad memorabilia.

Benefit Motorcycle Ride Planned
Saturday At Indian Creek Cycles
The Banks County Leopards Coach’s Club and Indian Creek Cycles
will host a benefit motorcycle ride Saturday to benefit the Banks County
High School football program.
The ride will start at 10 a.m. at Indian Creek Cycles, Banks Crossing,
and will go through Banks and neighboring counties.
The cost is $35 per bike and $15 per additional rider. Participants will
receive a T-shirt.
