Commerce Police Department Arrests
Sunday Fight Results In
Charges Against Four
The Commerce Police
Department confiscated a gun
and arrested four people follow
ing a fight Sunday night in the
vicinity of the Boys and Girls
Club.
According to the incident
report, responding to the report
of a fight in which guns were
fired, police turned up by the
Boys and Girls Club on Ridgeway
Street and found only females,
one of whom pointed to a nearby
basketball court and told police
“they are going to shoot each
other down there.’'
The police saw Brandon Stewart
Mason, 20, of 116 Pine Street,
Commerce, standing, and Stepfon
Marice Faulkner, 22, of 724 Jim
David Road, Nicholson, driving
away. The report said Faulkner
refused to stop, so police gave
chase and made a “felony stop’’
with guns drawn on the vehicle.
Then one of ficer went to Mason’s
residence, where he found Mason
in his vehicle and removed him at
gunpoint as well.
The officers determined
that Mason and Faulkner had
exchanged shots. They recovered
a .9 mm. pistol from Mason’s
residence, along with ammuni
tion; they did not find a gun
on Faulkner, but did recover a
holster.
They charged Faulkner with
driving under the influence (DUI),
reckless conduct and terroristic
acts and threats. Police charged
Mason with discharging a firearm
in the city.
Two passengers in Faulkner’s
car, William Van Tabor, 24, 1210
Hwy. 63, Commerce; and Stacy
Latoya Holder, 24, 174 Sir Scott
Road, Athens, were charged with
public drunkenness, while Holder
was also cited for giving false
information to police.
Other Arrests
Others arrested or cited during
the week include:
•Melissa Leann Stowe, 23, 43
Chestnut Street, Commerce, bat
tery under the Family Violence
Act after she allegedly attacked
a 25-year-old white male for tell
ing her to get off the telephone.
When her parents arrived, police
arrested them for disorderly
conduct after they argued with
police and refused to cooperate.
They were identified as Terry
Wayne Pilgrim, 46, and Donna
Lynn Pilgrim, 40, both of 2694
Diamond Hill Church Road,
Maysville.
•Daniel McCame Taylor, 21,
262 East Paces Street, Athens, for
a headlight violation. He’d been
charged with suspicion of DUI as
well, but was not charged after his
blood alcohol content was found
to be well below the threshold for
DUI.
•Nancy Sue Smith, 55, 1120
Neal Road, Commerce, stor
ing drugs outside of the original
container and possession of an
improperly transferred tag. She
was pulled over for a seat belt
violation, and the officer found
numerous prescription drug con
tainers, including six that had
mixed medications. None were
for narcotics, the report noted.
• Sharon Coon, 46,119 Johnson
Drive, Athens, picked up from
Athens-Clarke police on a proba
tion violation warrant.
•Bobby Anthony Stephenson,
27, and Michael Shane Reed, 29,
both of 1030 Lake Jemiki Road,
Walhalla, SC, disorderly conduct.
According to the police report,
police were summoned to a fight,
but the two denied they had been
fighting. The report said they went
into Regions Bank to get money
for coins, but were denied service
because Reed was not wearing a
shirt.
•James Edward Dabney, 46,
138 Pine Avenue, Commerce, no
tag, driving without insurance and
driving without a license.
•Don Joseph Killen, 28, 669
Charlecote Drive, Virgina Beach,
VA, driving with a suspended
license and failure to move over
for a police officer. A passenger,
Felicia Linette Llanes, 36, 5540
Westwood Drive, Virginia Beach,
VA, was charged with possession
of narcotics, possession of mari
juana, and violation of the open
container law. According to the
police report, officers found 20
Percoset in one container and
a Xanax in another, neither of
which were in prescription con
tainers.
• Albertano Herrara De Paz, 48,
2445 Beaver Ruin Road, Norcross,
driving without a license and fail

Local Lawmen Get Training On Dealing
With 'Active Shooter' Scenarios At EJCHS
The Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office conducted an “Active
Shooter Response’’ training ses
sion July 21-24 at East Jackson
Comprehensive High School.
The training consisted of the
history of active shooting inci
dents, the psychological behav
ior patterns of active shooters,
critical incident response and
tactical deployment.
Practical exercises were con
ducted in an actual shooting
scenario form. Officers tacti
cally responded to the scene to
intervene and stop the further
actions of violence against the
victims.
Students from East Jackson
Comprehensive High School
acted in realistic fashion in the
scenario to add stress and emo
tion to the responding officers
as only a small example of what
would be faced in an actual
response.
Deputies of Jackson County
Sheriff’s Office, along with dep
uties from Franklin and Banks
County sheriff’s offices and offi
cers from Commerce, Arcade
and Pendergrass police depart
ments, also attended the train
ing.
“This training has been con
ducted for the past several years
to be better prepared should we
be faced with such an incident in
the future,’’ said Corporal Allan
Johnson, school resource super
visor, Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office. “Special thanks are given
to the Jackson County Board
of Education and the admin
istration of the East Jackson
Comprehensive High School for
the use of the school. Also to the
students and their parents who
took time out of their summer to
assist us in making this training
very realistic.’’
