City Police Charge 3 With Drug Offenses, 3 With DUI
The Commerce Police
Department announced three
drug-related arrests and three
arrests for driving under the influ
ence (DUI) of intoxicants during
the past week.
Among them was Ferd Bradley
Elrod, 33, of 54 Park Street,
Commerce, charged with pos
session of a Schedule 2 narcotic
and criminal trespass following a
domestic incident on Park Street.
Police allegedly found six pre
scription bottles in Elrod’s posses
sion, including one without a label
and another with an illegible label.
One of those two held hydroco-
dine, the report said.
Others arrested during the week
include:
•Nicholas Dale Hunt, 20, 441
Stepp Road, Hendersonville, NC,
felony possession of marijuana.
Pulled over for speeding on U.S.
441, Hunt was found in posses
sion of two ounces of marijuana,

Commerce Police Department Incidents
Police Investigate 7 Theft Cases
Of the seven theft-related
incidents investigated by the
Commerce Police Department
during the past week, four were
at the Flying J Travel Plaza on
Maysville Road at Interstate 85.
Three of those were for gasoline
theft.
Someone stole $50 worth Aug.
13, someone else drove off with
out paying for $90 worth of gaso
line Aug. 14 and the third case
listed “19.839 gallons of regular"
being stolen.
In none of the instances were
store personnel able to give police
a description of the vehicle or the
driver, and there was not indica
tion that the transactions were
recorded by the store’s security
system.
In the fourth incident at the
Flying J, a Nicholson man report
ed that someone stole three tail-
lights from a trailer he’d left on
the property. They were valued at
$9 apiece.
Other incidents to which police
were summoned include:
•theft of services at a North
Broad Street residence where
someone drilled a hole in a city
of Commerce electric meter and
inserted a wire to keep the meter
from turning. The city cut the
power off, but the owner soon
came in to ask that it be restored.
According to the report, the owner
first professed to know nothing
about the meter tampering, but
eventually admitted to it. He was
not charged pending payment of
all damages to the city.
•theft of a Ford truck from a
Homer Road location. The police
talked to the tow truck driver
who removed the vehicle when
he came back to the same site to
get another one. He told police
that a man had paid him to tow
the truck to Young Motors, Allen
Road, and sent him back for a car.
Officers went to Young Motors,
where the proprietor told them
that the man who had the truck
towed was trading it to him for
another vehicle, on which he still
owed $900. Police recovered the
missing truck.
•shoplifting at the Kangaroo
convenience store, South Broad
Street, in which a clerk reported
to police that a white male tried to
buy beer after the legal hours, and
when the clerk refused, he walked
out with the beer.
•harassing calls at Commerce
Cardiology in which a 44-year-old
white female told police a man
has been calling repeatedly since
June and is now asking for one of
the employees. The report did not
indicate the nature of the calls.
Police also conducted a search
of a commercial bus Thursday
afternoon, Aug. 14, for illegal
drugs — to no avail.
The incident began when an
officer pulled the bus over for fail
ing to signal its turn as it exited
Interstate 85. The driver could
not speak English, and the report
indicated that police summoned
the Department of Public Service
(DPS) and the Jefferson drug dog
to the scene.
The dog allegedly “alerted" on
the exterior of the bus, indicating
drugs inside, so police evacuated
the bus and searched inside. The
report said the dog alerted again
on a rear sleeping compartment,
but no illegal narcotics were dis
covered .
The DPS prohibited the driver
from continuing, due to his log
book, the report indicated, and
the company sent out another
driver.
