Lindsey Bryant And
Matthew Clark To Wed
'Mommy & Me' Turns 6
Julie Irvin To Marry
Shane Wofford On Sept. 6
Kirk and Jan Bryant of
Commerce announce the
upcoming marriage of their
daughter, Lindsey Ellen
Bryant, to Matthew Daniel
Clark, son of Dan and
Kathy Clark of Bogart.
They will be united in
September, after which
they will honeymoon in
Las Vegas, NV.
The bride is the grand
daughter of Kenneth and
Norma Bryant, Loganville;
and the late Clifford and
Juanita Stewart, formerly of
Commerce.
Mr. Clark is the grand
son of the late Charles
McClain, and the late Billy
and Ruth Clark, all former
ly of Toccoa.
Mommy & Me, the
Commerce Public Library’s
Friday-morning lap-sit story
time for infants 6-18 months
of age, is no longer in its
own infancy; it is now well
into its sixth year.
Led by veteran early-child-
hood educator Carolyn
Cook, the program gives
very young children and
their parents a chance to
hang out with other children
and parents, get to know
the library, and learn some
simple hand-claps, songs
and activities to share.
Cook, who originally
planned to teach history at
the college level, was way
laid by her growing interest
in the way children learn,
and ended up teaching at
the pre-kindergarten level
instead. (Braves outfielder
Jeff Francoeur is her most
famous former student so

far.) After retiring from
her career as an educator,
Cook missed working with
young children, so in June
2000 she began volunteer
ing at the library, offering
a program called Storytime
with children’s librarian
Catherine Harris Thursday
mornings. A year and a half
later, she joined the library
staff, moved her children’s
program to Friday morn
ings, and began to use and
share information offered
by the state under an initia
tive called Better Brains for
Babies, leading programs to
help parents maximize their
infants’ learning potential.
She also teamed with chil
dren’s librarian Catherine
Harris in taking the Summer
Reading Club on the road
for the benefit of youngsters
who couldn’t attend the
library’s summer events.
In 2003, Cook’s weekly
Friday-morning program
for babies and their parents
was christened Mommy &
Me (although dads and even
granddads are frequent par
ticipants), and in the years
since then it has steadily
drawn infants and their care
givers to the calm and quiet
pleasures of the 10:30 a.m.
sessions. The caregivers go
home with a free booklet
of finger plays and songs —
and typically come back for
the next program.
Julie Lynn Irvin and
Daniel Shane Wofford

and forthcoming marriage.
