Melissa Simmons and
Billy Madden were united
in marriage Saturday April
19, 2008, at Mt. Olive
Baptist Church, Commerce.
Sammy Simmons, brother
of the bride, performed the
ceremony.
The bride is the daugh
ter of John and Carolyn
Simmons, Commerce.
She is a 1997 graduate of
Commerce High School
and a 2001 graduate of
the University of Georgia
with a bachelor’s degree in
business administration in
marketing. She is a physi
cian recruiter for Merritt
Hawkins and Associates.
The groom is the son of Bill
and Bev Madden, Bismarck.
He is a 1998 graduate of
Bismarck-Henning High
School and a 2005 gradu
ate of Toccoa Falls College
in Toccoa, with a degree
in communications. He is
employed by Leaseplan.
The maid of honor
was Susan Simmons,
Commerce, sister of the
bride. The matron of honor
was Michelle Simmons,
Ringgold, sister-in-law of
the bride. Bridesmaids were
all friends of the bride:
Jennifer Hamm, Sugar Hill;
Julie Massimino and Laura
Borgestede, both of Atlanta;
and Christy Haynes,
Cumming.
Best men were the father
of the groom and Dale
Madden, Lawrenceville,
brother of the groom.
Groomsmen were all
friends of the groom: Joel
Light, Martin, MI; Curtis
Parker, Rincon; Lee Goins,
Athens; and Chris Cooper,
Loganville.
The ring bearer was Jay
Simmons, Ringgold, neph
ew of the bride.
After a honeymoon to
Belize, the couple resides
in Duluth.
Humane Society Fund-Raiser
This Saturday In Jefferson
Mimosas For Mutts At Civic Center
The Humane Society of
Jackson County will host
Mimosas for Mutts, its annu
al fall fund-raiser, Saturday,
Sept. 13, atthe Jefferson Civic
Center. The event features a
brunch, a silent auction and
entertainment. Fashions will
be presented by Coldwater
Creek of Athens. Live music
will include a harpist and a
pianist.
This is the organiza
tion’s third year presenting
Mimosas for Mutts, which
raises funds to help rescue
animals and work toward a
future facility.
Tickets for the morning’s
event are $25 per person,
or tables of eight for $160.
In addition, the Humane
Society is still accepting
sponsorships and welcomes
donations of silent auction
and door prize items.

Sandy Cross School Reunion Cancelled
The annual Sandy Cross School Reunion in Franklin
County scheduled for Sept. 27 has been cancelled for this
year. “We hope to see everyone next year,’’ said the Sandy
Cross School Reunion Committee.
Art In The Park
Set Next Weekend
At Hurricane Shoals
A silent auction and min
iature golf are new additions
for the Art in the Park festi
val. The 18th annual event
will be held Sept. 20-21 at
Hurricane Shoals Park,
located between Jefferson
and Maysville.
The festival hours will be
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday,
Sept. 20, and noon to 5:30
p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21.
Silent auction items will
include two Georgia foot
ball game tickets, a kids’
bicycle and a canoe made
from trees at the park. The
silent auction will be held
at the Tumbling Waters
Society booth.
The new “Spirit of the
River’’ miniature golf course
at Hurricane Shoals Park
will be open during the fes
tival. Carved bears, Native
Americans and replicas of
the chapel and cabins at
the park are depicted in the
course.
A wide variety of food,
including barbecue, ham
burgers, bratwurst, fried
pies, funnel cakes and boiled
peanuts, will be offered.
Tours of the chapel, log
cabins and other buildings
in the Heritage Village will
be offered. A blacksmith
will be at his forge and there
will be soap-making, quilt
ing demonstrations and a
beekeeper with his honey
bees. James Mathis will dis
play his arrowhead collec
tion and a video on Clyde
Freeman will be on view.
Craftsman from all over
North Georgia will demon
strate their work and have
handmade items for sale.
Children’s art will be dis
played in the round pavil
ion. Children’s activities
will include a Moonwalk,
obstacle course and giant
slide, ponies and a petting
zoo. Games and activities
for children will also be
offered.
Splash, the festival mas
cot, will entertain children
throughout the festival.
Entertainment featuring
area bands will also be
offered both days.
The 5K Mill Race will be
held at 3 p.m. Sunday. A
one-mile Fun Run or Walk
will take place at 2:30 p.m.
Fees are $15 to pre-register
and $18 on race day. For

The grand finale will be
the Duck Dash Sunday.
Ducks can be sponsored
for $5 each or five ducks
for $20. Grand prizes will
be given.
The Tumbling Waters
Society hosts the annual

and was 18 inches long. She joins a sister, Jade Marie
Edwards, 9.

Allison Danielle Wilbanks
Scott and Jill Shore Wilbanks of Commerce announce the
birth of a daughter, Allison Danielle Wilbanks, Wednesday,
July 16, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center. She
weighed seven pounds, eight ounces and was 19.75 inches
long. She joins a brother, Matthew Wilbanks, 4.

Following a wedding trip
to the Dominican Republic,
the couple resides in
Buford.
Equine Management Program Offered
Master Equine Manage
ment Training, an advanced
training conducted by
the University of Georgia
Cooperative Extension
Service and cooperators,
will be offered this fall to
inform horse owners about
many topics critical to start
ing and managing a horse
related business.
The training will begin Oct.
14 and meet each Tuesday
at 6 p.m. at the Commerce
Civic Center until Nov. 25.
Study material, proceedings
of the meetings, refresh
ments, embroidered cap,
door prizes and a Master
Equine Management certifi
cate will be included in the
tuition. The tuition will be
$150 per person. The class
is limited to the first 75 who
send in their paid registra
tion. The registration dead
line is Oct. 1.
The topics include eco
nomics of the industry,
taxes, feeding, nutrition,
waste handling, horse health,
barn and arena design, gen
eral management practices,
soil, water and pasture man
agement, environmental
concerns, trail and arena
maintenance and legal and
liability issues.
The class is designed
for horse owners, trainers,
instructors, boarding sta
bles managers and breeding
