Police Investigate
Reports Of Harassment
Commerce police
responded to a pair of inci
dents last week where resi
dents are being harassed
by their neighbors.
A Hillcrest Street man
called police after he found
someone had started a fire
on a wooden walkway in
his back yard.
The 57-year-old white
male told police that a
friend noticed smoke
from behind the residence.
They found a fire started
with twigs, pine straw and
paper. Damage to the walk
way was minimal.
The victim told police that
on previous days, some
one had egged his vehicle
and smeared feces from a
diaper in his mailbox.
In the other case, a
46-year-old white male told
police that it appeared that
someone had beat his mail
box with a stick or bat.
He reported that some
one regularly turns over his
trash container and told
officers that he sees juve
niles out on the street late
at night.
Other Incidents
Other matters requiring
police attention include:

Sunnycrest Drive residence
where an officer investi
gated a dispute between a
28-year-old black male and
a 21-year-old black female

The officer noted a large
window was broken, let
ting cold air in the house.
An hour later he was
recalled to the same resi
dence, where the man told
him he was “tired of” his
girlfriend and “wanted to
go his separate way.” The
officer, noting the forecast
for severely cold weather
in upcoming days, sum
moned the Department
of Family and Children
Services, who took over
the case.

male said he called a
26-year-old white male in
to speak to the younger
man about his behavior
on the job. He told the

man to either “get his act
together” or find a new
job. The man walked out,
but minutes later ran back

and fell, got up, grabbed
the victim by the neck
and pinned him against
a cabinet, scratching him
with his fingernails. The
man declined to press
charges.
