Literacy Spelling Bee Is Thursday
The tenth annual Leap Into Literacy county-wide Spelling
Bee will take place Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7:00 p.m. at Jackson
EMC, just outside Jefferson. Admission is free, and there
are door prizes, a silent auction and even a spelling contest
for audience members.
This annual celebration of literacy and love of language
is also a festival of laughs, as three-person teams turn out
in costumes and try their best to spell words most people
can’t even pronounce.
The proceeds benefit the Jackson County Adult Literacy
Program — now in its third decade — and the Jackson
County Work-Based Learning Programs.
To sponsor a spelling team, put an ad in the program, or
donate a silent auction prize, call Sandra Fite at 706-367-
8574 or Amber Casper at 706-338-9315.
