A Lesson On Government
Representative Tommy Benton spoke with the third grade students at
Commerce Elementary School recently about his duties and the three
branches of the state government. The third grade students have completed
a social studies unit covering government at local, state and national lev
els.

Commerce Middle and Commerce High FCCLA
traveled to the State Capitol Tuesday, Feb. 10, in
observance of FCCLA Day at the Capitol. Students
met with Senator Ralph Hudgens and Rep. Tommy
Benton. Rep. Benton spoke with the students
regarding his ties to Commerce High School and
encouraged students to continue their involve
ment in activities such as FCCLA.
Local Students Graduate From UGA
Several local students received diplomas during the
fall semester graduation ceremony at the University of
Georgia.
They include Brittany Guest Banks, Nicholson, bachelor
of science degree in family and consumer sciences; Ashley
Elizabeth Brown, Commerce, bachelor of arts; Cecilia
Montez Davis, Maysville; bachelor of business adminis
tration; and Katherine Thompson Hanks, South Jackson,
master of education.
Also, John David Parks III, Nicholson, bachelor of sci
ence in environmental sciences; Kristen Elizabeth Pittard,
South Jackson, bachelor of science in family and consumer
sciences; and Jamie Anne Sam, South Jackson, bachelor of
science in education.
Jackson Students Make ACS Honors Lists
Athens Christian School’s honors lists for the second
quarter of the school year includes a number of local stu
dents.
Honored for making all A’s are Jessika Stanley, first
grade; Dennis Fouche, Marion Mealor and Courtney Trust,
all fifth grade; Madison Mealor and Chaney Westbrook,
seventh grade; Emily Horton, eighth grade; and Caleb
Washington, 11th grade.
Recognized for making all A’s and B’s are Valerie Heiss,
Nicholas Hopper and Jake Long, second grade; Cameron
Hardesty and Clara Hess, third grade; Carly Hardesty,
fourth grade; Lexie Evans, Joshua Hutch and Kaylee
Skelton, fifth grade.
Also, Ansley Warnell, seventh grade; Lisey Grisel,
Zachary Hopper and Brittany Yeager, all eighth grade;
Ted Thurmond, ninth grade; Ben Grisel and Seth Horton,
11th grade; and Samantha Crawford, Larry Thurmond and
