March 1, 2009.
A native of Danielsville, she
was the daughter of the late
Benjamin and Mae Chastain
Scarborough. She was a home
maker and
member of

Church.
Mrs.
Alewine
was pre
ceded in
death by
her hus
band, Floyd Alewine; and
siblings, J.B. Alewine, Willie
Alewine and Odell Alewine.
Survivors include a son,
Bud Alewine, Lexington;

Athens, Janelle Whitlock,

Crawford, Hull; 25 grand
children; and many great and
great-great-grandchildren.

Mitchell Andrews, 79, died
Thursday, February 26, 2009.
Born on May 9, 1929, in
Lavonia, he was the son of
the late J.P. and
Andrews. He
was a member
of the Cross Roads Baptist
Church, was a farmer, a
mason, a member of the
American Legion, the VFW,
and was on the board of direc
tors of the Franklin County
Farm Bureau. He was a veter
an having served in the United
States Army's 432nd Combat
Engineering Battalion during
the Korean War. Mr. Andrews
was preceded in death by his
wife, Jenelle Ayers Andrews;
brother, Royce Andrews;
and brother-in-law, Ralph
Bellamy Sr.
Survivors include a daugh
ter and son-in-law, Jennifer
and Jeffrey Allen, Kennesaw;
sister, Betty Troyce Andrews
Sisk, Monroe; and some fam
ily and many friends in Banks
County.

Monday, March 2, at B.D.

with military honors.

Saturday, February 21, 2009.

CARNESVILLE - Ralph
Newton Bellamy Sr., of the
New Bethel Community, died
Friday, February 27,2009, at
the Athens Regional Medical
Center in Athens.
Born on June 22, 1927,
in Banks County, he was
the son of the late Alonzo
Randolph “Lon” and Myrtie
Irene Osborne Bellamy. He
was a mem
ber of the Mt.
Zion United
Methodist
Church, was retired from Mt.
Vernon Mills in Alto, and
was an original member of
the Double Churches Fire
Department and had served
as fire chief. Mr. Bellamy
was preceded in death by his
wife, Nolie Ayers Bellamy;
son, Ralph Newton Bellamy
Jr.; siblings, Lloyd Bellamy,
Elise Ward and Jennie Lou
Poole. He was a veteran, hav
ing served in the United States
Army Air Force.
Survivors include a daugh
ter and son-in-law, Jan and
John Bertrang, Carnesville;
grandchildren, Shawn
Bertrang, Amy Crump, Charli
Bellamy, Anna Wilkinson and
R.N. Bellamy; great-grand

Roy Broome
HOMER - Roy E. Broome,
81, died Friday, February 27,
2009.
Born in Commerce, Jackson
County, on January 20, 1928,
he was the son of the late
F.E. and Mamie Lee Vaughn
Broome. He
was a member
of the Mount
Carmel Baptist
Church in Banks County,
where he was a deacon
and taught Sunday School
for a number of years. He
was a member of Gideon
International and a member
of Banks-Jackson East Camp,
and was a retired supervi
sor from Chicopee-Lumite
Division with 46 1/2 years
of service. Mr. Broome was a
veteran, having served in the
United States Navy during
World War II.
Survivors include his wife
of 61 years, Mary C. Broome,
Homer; daughter and son-
in-law, Rosemary and Keith
Epps, Lula; granddaughter
and spouse, Marie and Robert
Sosebee, Sunday Oren, Daniel
Oren and Jarad Oren; and
four step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were
held Monday, March 2, at
Whitfield Funeral Home
with the Revs. James Duncan
and Billy Burrell officiating.
Burial was at Yonah Memorial
Gardens.

and Loan and was Baptist.

Beatrice Louise Cagle, 72,
of Lighthouse Manor, died
Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at
Lanier Park Hospital follow
ing an extended illness.
Born on November 22,
1936, in Hall County, she
was the daughter of the late
Harvey and Bessie Jackson
Key. She was a homemaker
and was Baptist. Mrs. Cagle
was preceded in death by her
husband, Lester Cagle Jr.
Survivors include a sister
and brother-in-law, Wilma and
Hoyt Hollifield, Gainesville;
sisters, Betty Norrell,
Gainesville, Eloise House
and Brenda Clarke, both of
Gillsville; brother, Kerry Key,
Cornelia; and a special niece,
Chaquita Jackson, Baldwin.

Mae Culbertson, 91, died
Wednesday, February 25,
2009.
A native and lifelong resi
dent of Madison County,
she was the daughter of the
late George B. and Callie
Elizabeth Bird, and was the
last survivor of six siblings.
She was a textile worker, a
teacher in Ila for many years,
and was a member of Mt.
Hermon Presbyterian Church
in Ila. Mrs. Culbertson was
preceded in death by her hus
band, W.W. Culbertson.
Survivors include a son
and daughter-in-law, Billy
and Elaine Culbertson,
Danielsville; granddaughter
and spouse, Sherri and Greg
Sutton, Dalton; great-grand
children, Christa Sutton and
Caitlyn Sutton; and several
nieces and nephews.

Church. He was a veteran,
having served in the United
States Air Force.

Talik DuBose, 17, died
Tuesday, February 24, 2009.
Born on April 26, 1991,
he was the son of Bernard
and Barbara Dubose. He was
a member of the Hurricane
Grove Baptist Church, played
drums for all the choirs, and
was secretary of Sunday
School. He was a senior and
honor student of East Jackson
Comprehensive High School
and was a member of the
National Guard.
Survivors in addition to
his parents, include a broth

Henderson, Michelle DuBose,
Adrienne DuBose, Nickee

‘Ben’ Etris
MAYSVILLE - Benjamin
Franklin “Ben” Etris, 66, died
Thursday, February 26, 2009.
He was the son of Hettie
Hubbard Etris of Homer and
the late Oscar Etris. He was a
retired welder and owned his
own business,
C&M Western
Wear. He was a
member of the
American Legion Post 215 in
Homer, an elder of the Homer
Presbyterian Church, and
served four years on the S.S.
Jenkins 447 during Vietnam.
He enjoyed horseback riding
with friends, better known as
“The Sacketts”, loved ones
added. Mr. Etris was preceded
in death by daughters, Evette
and Tracy Etris; brother,
Oscar Ferd Etris; and sister,
Lois Nicholson.

to his mother, include his
wife, Gladys Crane Etris,
Maysville; daughter and son-
in-law, Naja and Edward

Curtis Gaddis, 71, died
Monday, February 23, 2009,
at his residence following an
extended illness.
Born on June 24, 1938, in
Hall County, he was the son of
the late Roscoe and Cordelia
Smith Gaddis. He lived in
Gainesville all his life and
worked at Gainesville Mill,
Milliken Mill and Chicopee
Mill. Mr. Gaddis was pre
ceded in death by one sister;
and one brother.
Survivors include a
daughter, Dedrah Gaddis,
Gainesville; sons, Curtis
Gaddis, Cleveland, and
Timothy Gaddis, Lula; grand
children, Samatha Gaddis,
Anthony Gaddis, Lonzo

member of Comer Baptist
Church. Mrs. Hammond was
preceded in death by her hus
band, Paul Hammond; daugh
ter, Sandra Alice Hardeman;
sister, Kathleen Pulliam; and
brother, James B. “Buck”
Benton.
