Haney "Rusty" Jones, 42,
died Friday, March 6, 2009,
at his residence.
Born in Athens, he was the
son of Betty Jones Martin
and the late Carroll Blaine
Jones. He lived most of his
life in Barrow and Jackson
County, only recently mov
ing to Lexington. He was
a mechanic with M & M
Transmission and loved
camping and fishing. Mr.
Jones was preceded in death
by grandparents, Hoke Henry
and Annie Elizabeth Jones
and Curtis Eugene and Edna
Truelove.

to his mother include his

Thomas E. “Tommy” Marcus,
69, died Thursday, March
5, 2009, at the Northeast
Georgia Medical Center.
Born on January 20, 1940,
in Habersham County, he was
the son of the
late George G.
and Drucilla ^
Heaton
Marcus. He was retired from
Scovill Manufacturing with
39 Vi years of service, and
was a cabinetry graduate
of North Georgia Technical
Institute. He was a veteran,
having served in the United
States Army. Mr. Marcus
was preceded in death by
brothers, Junior Marcus and
Houston Marcus; and a sis
ter, Maebelle Marcus.
Survivors include his
wife, Ann Whitfield Marcus,
Clarkesville; daughters
and sons-in-law, Chantay
and Greg Beck, Mt. Airy,
Tanoa and Kenneth Turner,
Alto, and Shanda and Steve

Odell Giles Ray, 72, died

at Northeast Georgia Medical
Center following a brief ill
ness.
She was born on April 5,
1936, in Hall County, the
daughter of the late Johnny
G. and Lillie Mae Poston
Giles. She retired from the
United States Government
with 28 years of service, and
was of the Southern Baptist
denomination. Mrs. Ray was
preceded in death by sisters,
infant Laura Mae Giles and
Patricia Willard; brothers,
John Lee Giles and David
Giles.
Survivors include her hus
band of 52 years, Oscar H.
Ray, Gillsville; sons and
daughters-in-law, Harold A.
"Buster” and Penny J. Ray,
Kansas City, Mo., and Jeffrey
M. and Jennie Ray, Destin,
Fla.; grandsons, Brandon
Ray, Garrett “Dusty” Ray

Spurlock, born on February
24, 1922, died Friday, March
6, 2009.
She was a lifelong resi
dent of Dawson, the daughter
of Earle Jackson and Jessie
Melton Pace, both Dawson
natives, and a sister to Laura
Rebecca West, all of who
preceded her in death. She
was a correspondent for
The Dawson News and The
Albany Herald before she
began her teaching career in
Terrell County. She was a
faithful member of the First
Baptist Church of Dawson
for 80 years and the Minnie
Clark Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her hus
band, A.D. Spurlock; chil
dren and spouses, Nathan
and Marsha Twinkle
Baxter, Athens, formerly of
Commerce, Earle and Linda
Fain Spurlock, Albany,
Sandy and Carolyn Spurlock,

Baptist Church, was
employed as a painter, and
was a veteran, having served
in the United States Army
during World War II. Mr.
Whitsel was preceded in
death by his wife, Lavonia
Boyd Whitsel.
Survivors include sons,
Neal Whitsel, Commerce, and
Kenny Whitsel, Jefferson; sis
ter, Hazel Whitsel, Demorest;
four grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.

held Thursday, March 12, at
2 p.m., in the chapel of Little-
Ward Funeral Home. Burial
will be in Jackson Memorial

home Wednesday, March 11,

ceded in death by her hus
band, Reuben C. Wood.
