Schools Raise $10,000 To Fight Cancer
Learn From 'Suzie Litter'
Third graders at Commerce Elementary School welcomed “Susie Litter”
to discuss the effects of littering on the environment. The students learned
about the three R’s — reduce, reuse and recycle. The visit was part of the
activities planned to celebrate Earth Day, and to address the third grade
science standards.

Top Grandparents
The Commerce Primary School PTO recently
hosted a Grandparent Pageant fund-raiser. With
23 contestants entered, $1,400 was raised to help
defray the cost of a covered breezeway for the
gym. The contestant who raised the most money
was awarded the title of PTO Grandparent. From
left to right are Channing Martin with Lynn Greene,
PTO Grandparent winner; Connie Brown, runner-
up; Jim and Ensley Evans with Brenda Elrod, sec
ond runner-up; and Ivy and Abby Rice with Judy
Rice, third runner-up.

The Commerce City Schools participated in a system-wide fund-raiser to
benefit the American Cancer Society. This year, Commerce City Schools pre
sented a check to the American Cancer Society in the amount of $10,364.00.
The system relay committee presented a check to Victoria Patrick from the

Mother's Morning Out Program

sive High School is taking
signups for its Mother’s
Morning Out Program.
The Mother’s Morning
Out Program is offered by
a high school class called
Early Childhood Education.
High school students plan,
prepare and teach lessons
on numbers, colors, letters
and shapes as well as activi
ties that help the children
develop socially emotion
ally and physically.
The Mother’s Morning Out
operates weekly Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays
from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
During the school year,
there will be two ses
sions. The first session will
be Tuesday Sept. 15, to
Thursday Dec 10. The sec
ond session will be Tuesday
Feb. 9, to Thursday May 13.
The cost of the program
is $150 per session, which
includes a daily snack and
lunch and all supplies.
To enroll in the Mother’s
Morning Out Program chil
dren should be 3 by Sept.
1, 2009, and must be potty-
trained.
The program is limited to
12 three and four-year-olds.
Applications are accepted
on a first-come, first-served
basis.
