Commerce High School Honor Graduates
Meet The Best And The Brightest Of The Class Of '09
They comprise 25 percent
of the Class of 2009, 20 of
them plan to continue their
education in college — all of
them in Georgia, and their
most popular subject was
biology.
Meet the 24 honor gradu
ates of Commerce High
School.
Seven plan to attend the
University of Georgia; the
rest will head to 10 other
post-secondary institutions
in Georgia to continue their
education.
They are, in order of their
class ranking, Catherine

Galloway, Anna-Marie

Reid, Rachel Wilson, Ryan
Reece, Chelsea Swaim,
Matt Adams, Ashley Boyles,
Callie Adams, Jannylee
Pena, Grace Alewine,
Jessica Smith and Brandy
Dotson.
Marynelle Catherine
Nelson Ball, daughter of
Carl and JoAn Ball, was
active in the Beta Club,
Commerce Leaders And
Super Students (CLASS),
Key Club and Academic
Team. She participated
in the Governors Honors
Program in math, was vale
dictorian, an AP scholar,
voted “most likely to suc
ceed" and scored 800 on
both her molecular and eco
logical biology SAT subject
tests. She will attend Emory
University or the University
of Georgia to major in cel
lular biology.
Chelsey Cain, daugh
ter of Kent and Ann Cain,
was active in the Key Club,
Academic Team, Student
Council, Horizons, Beta
Club, One-Act Play and
yearbook staff and com
peted at golf and for the
Literary Team. She plans to
attend UGA to major in his
tory or political science.
Noelle Alexandra
Cannady, daughter of
James and Shelley Cannady,
was active in the Beta and
Key clubs, Horizons and
CLASS. She was the STAR
student and will attend
UGA to major in ecology.
Colton Brown, son of
Abe and Robbin Brown,
played football and baseball,
participated in the one-act
play, Beta Club, Key Club,
Horizons, the yearbook staff
and was in CLASS. He is a
Presbyterian College Junior
Fellow, won the U.S. Army
Scholar-Athlete Award,
the Whitney Zimmerman
Scholar Manager, the
Wendy’s High School
Heisman, was voted “best
all-around" by his class and
was named “Mr. CHS.”
Lauren Cooper, daughter
of Mark and Angie Cooper,
was on the yearbook staff,
Academic Team, one-act-
play, was active in Horizons,
the Literary Team, Key
Club and Student Council.
She was secretary of the
senior class. She will attend
Georgia State University to
major in biology with a con
centration in microbiology.
Austin Galloway, son
of Barry and Veronica
Galloway, was vice presi
dent of the Beta Club and
was a member of CLASS.
He received the UGA
Certificate of Merit and
will attend the University
of Georgia to major in bio
medical sciences.
Anna-Marie Hooper,
daughter of Rod and
Angie Hooper, was active
in the Beta and Key clubs,
Horizon, CLASS and the
one-act play. She was a var
sity football cheerleader,
was elected “most involved"
in her class, won the U.S.
Army Scholar Athletic
award and won the Wendy’s
High School Heisman
award. She will attend the
University of Georgia to
major in pre-pharmacy and
biochemistry.
Maritza Elizabeth
Martinez, daughter of
Elias and Alicia Martinez,
was active in the Beta
and Key clubs, the Health
Occupation Student
Association (HOSA),
Future Business Leaders of
America (FBLA), Student
Council, Horizons, one-act
play and competed in ten
nis and cross-country. She
was voted “most depend
able" by her class and will
major in biology at the
University of Georgia.
Alexandra Pace, daugh
ter of Rebecca Sims and
Lamar Pace, was active in the
Key Club, FCLA, CLASS,
was a peer mediator, served
on the yearbook staff and
was a football and basket
ball cheerleader. Named
“Miss Homecoming" and
voted “best all-around" by
her class, she will attend
Georgia College & State
University to major in lit
erature.

She plans to attend college
to major in biology.
Amberly Anderson,
daughter of Michael and
Ginny Anderson, was
active in Horizons, the one-
act play and the Academic
Team. She was voted “most
talented" by her class and
will attend Gainesville
College prior to transfer
ring to Georgia State or
Valdosta State to major in
astronomy.
Taylor Sims, son of Bill
and Catherine Sims, was
active in the Beta Club
and Horizons and played
football. He plans to
attend Georgia Southern
University to major in
sports medicine.
Rebekah Jayne
Andrews, daughter of Jane
and Scott Andrews, was
active in the Key Club, Beta
Club, CLASS, served as
class treasurer, was editor in
chief of the yearbook, was
in the one-act play and com
peted in softball. She will
attend Georgia Southern
University to major in nurs
ing.
Johanna Reid, daughter
of Kenneth and Barbara
Reid, was a member of
CLASS, the Beta Club and
the CHS Band, where she
won the Director’s Award
and was named the “out
standing percussionist."
She will attend Brenau
University.
Rachel Elizabeth
Wilson, daughter of Tracy
and Daniel Wilson, was
active in Beta, FCCLA,
HOSA, CLASS and the
Student Council. She was
voted “Miss CHS,” won the
FCCLA Star Events Gold
Medal at the state conven
tion and will attend Truett-
McConnell College to
major in early childhood
education.
Ryan Reece, son of
Verlin and Lavonda Reece,
was active in CLASS and
will attend the University
of Georgia to major in biol
ogy.
Chelsey Swaim, daugh
ter of Bobby and Barbara
Swaim, was a member of
the Tiger Band, Key Club
and Japan Club. She will
attend either the University
of Georgia or North Georgia
College as a pre-med stu
dent.
Matt Adams, son of
David and Vicky Adams,
played football. He joined
CSX after graduation.
Ashley Boyles, daugh
ter of Loriene and James
Boyles, was the FCCLA
historian. She will go to
Gainesville State College,
then transfer to the Medical
College of Georgia to major
in nursing.
Callie Marie Adams,
daughter of Tommy and
Pam Adams, was treasurer
of the Key Club, president
of the Student Council, was
active in CLASS, the Beta
Club, was a peer mediator,
served as sports editor for
the yearbook, participated
in the one-act play and
played softball and golf.
She was voted “friendliest"
in her class and plans to
attend Georgia Southern
University to major in nurs
ing.
Jannylee Pena, daughter
of Jose and Maria Pena, was
active in FCCLA, the Tiger
Band’s dance line, Student
Council and Key Club. She
will attend the Arts Institute
of Atlanta to major in fash
ion and retail management.
Grace Alewine, daugh
ter of James Alewine and
Glenda Pierce, was project
chairman of HOSA and
was active in FCCLA. She
is a certified nursing assis
tant (CNA) and will work
at BJC Medical Center with
the eventual goal of going
into hospice care.
Jessica Smith, daugh
ter of James and Virginia
Smith, was active in CLASS
and the CHS Band, where
she was drum major. She
plans to major in nursing in
college.
Brandy Dotston, grand
daughter of Bob and Ruth
Reynolds, was active in
HOSA and FCCLA. She
received her CNA license
through Lanier Technical
College and will attend
Gainesville State College,
with plans to transfer to
North Georgia College
and State University to
complete her nursing
degree.
Eighth Grade Eagles
The Eagle Award is given to one East Jackson
Middle School student per grade level who exem
plifies the characteristics of leadership, citizenship
and academic achievement, while the Soaring
Eagle Award goes to the student who has exhib
ited drive, adaptability and shows characteristics
of a model student. Eighth grade winners are
Sam DeRochers, Eagle Award; and Morgan Leach,
Soaring Eagle Award.
Seventh Grade Eagles
The Eagle Award is given to one East Jackson
Middle School student per grade level who exem
plifies the characteristics of leadership, citizenship
and academic achievement, while the Soaring
Eagle Award goes to the student who has exhibited
drive, adaptability and shows characteristics of a
model student. Seventh grade winners are Carter
Potts, Eagle Award; and Lonnie Hollis, Soaring
Eagle.
Sixth Grade Eagles
The Eagle Award is given to one East Jackson
Middle School student per grade level who exem
plifies the characteristics of leadership, citizenship
and academic achievement, while the Soaring
Eagle Award goes to the student who has exhib
ited drive, adaptability and shows characteristics
of a model student. Sixth grade winners are Ryan
Robinett, Eagle Award; and Angel Looney, Soaring
Eagle Award.
