4-0 Eagles Face Riverside At Homecoming
By Brandon Reed
The East Jackson Eagles con
tinued their hot start to 2009,
as they beat the Union County
Panthers 56-27 Friday night on
the road.
The Eagles are now 3-0 in the
region and 4-0 overall. Only two
other region teams, Jefferson and
North Oconee, can boast such
numbers at this point.
Up next is the Eagles’ home
coming game Friday night against
Riverside Military Academy.
Kickoff is at 7:30.
Riverside, coming into Friday off
of a 17-0 loss to North Oconee, is
2-1 in the region and 2-2 overall.
Union County
At first, it looked like it might be
a long night for the East Jackson
faithful, as the Panthers took an
early 7-0 lead. But the Eagles
came right back, marching down

the field to score their first touch
down, tying the game 7-7.
The Panthers again broke into
the end zone, taking a 14-7 lead,
but a touchdown by Deon Sewell
tied the game 14-14, and another
score by Sewell gave East Jackson
its first lead of the night, 21-14,
late in the first half.
With time running out in the
half, Union County scored again
to tie the score, then took the lead
by running back the second-half
kickoff for a score.
But that would prove to be
their last score of the night, as
East Jackson took control of the
game.
By the end, the Eagles had their
fourth win of the season, taking a
56-27 victory over the Panthers.
Quarterback Evan Williamson
completed four of 11 passes for
92 yards. Deon Sewell had one
reception for 17 yards, and rushed
11 times for 238 yards, scoring
three touchdowns.
C.J. Allen completed two of three
passes for 69 yards, and rushed
14 times for 91 yards, scoring four

Tigers Face
Devil Of An
Opponent
By Justin Poole
After a week off that spared the Commerce Tigers from
playing in the mud, coach Steve Savage’s squad has a devil
of a task before it this Friday.
Commerce will host perennial Class A power Lincoln
County Friday night in the Tigers’ final non-region game of
the season. The Tigers are 1-2 in the season and are looking
to improve on last year’s .500 record, but Lincoln is likely
one of the toughest — if not the toughest — teams on the
2009 schedule.
Commerce is 4-11 against the Red Devils, with the Tigers’
last win coming in 2002. Last year, Lincoln County admin
istered a 35-6 whipping. Currently the Red Devils are 3-1 so
far this season.
As usual, Lincoln County has a tailback who can put
points on the board in a hurry and a strong defense to
protect its own goal line.
“I don’t know much about Lincoln yet,” said Savage
adding, but I know they are going to have a real good Commerce’s Carl Allen dodges an opponent as he heads down the field after
