Cheer Tigers
The Commerce High School com
petitive cheerleading squad won its first
2009 competition at Mill Creek High
School last Saturday.
The Cheer Tigers scored 228, easily
defeating Hebron Christian Academy
which finished with 193 points.
According to coach Dianne Cotrell,
the squad struggled over the past week
with illness and injuries, but made
adjustments to pull off the win.
“The team pulled together and did a
very good job," said Cotrell. “I was very
proud of the freshmen that had to step

up and perform for the first time.’'
Commerce cheerleaders compete in
seven meets during the season.
“We have a lot to work on, but I’m
very positive about this season,’’ Cotrell
said. “This week we hope to be able to
get back to our original routine and
have everyone well.’’
The Lady Tigers will be at North Hall
on Sept. 26, where they expect to bring
home another trophy.
“It is going to be an exciting season
for the Cheer Tigers,’’ Cotrell com
mented.

Space Still Available In Tanger 5k
The Tanger Outlet
Center at Banks Crossing
and Leggs Hanes Bali
Playtex will host the
inaugural Tanger Fit for
a Cure 5K Run/Walk
Oct. 10 beginning at 8:30
a.m. The 3.1-mile course
will begin and end at
the Tanger Outlet Center
in Commerce. Proceeds
will be used to fight
breast cancer.
The family event is open
to runners and walkers
of all ages. Prizes will be
awarded to division win
ners as well as the top
three male and female
winners. The first 350
registered participants
will receive a special race
pack, which includes a
souvenir Tanger 5K Run/
Walk T-shirt and other
goodies. All finishers
will also receive a com
memorative race medal.

visit the Tanger Shopper
Services or register
online at www.tanger-
outlet.com. Early regis
tration fee is $20 per
person. The fee will be
$25 seven days prior to
race and on race day.

Cancer Society.

The inaugural Fit For
A Cure 5K Run/Walk is
part of Tanger's ongoing
commitment to fighting
breast cancer. Since 1994,
Tanger Outlets across the
country have raised more
than $6.1 million to help
find a cure. Tanger's 16th
annual Breast Cancer
Awareness Campaign,
with its popular 25%
OFF Pink Card, will take
place Sept. 21-Oct. 20.

Looking For
Clear Skies

Rain put a damper on the
Commerce Lady Tigers as
both of last week’s softball
games were washed out.
The Hebron game from
Sept. 15 is rescheduled for
Oct. 8. At press time, a date
had not been set for the
non-region game with Banks
County.
This week, Commerce was
scheduled to take on Towns
County on the road Tuesday
and host Social Circle today
(Wednesday).
According to coach Pam
Canup, Commerce will
approach the games on a
day-by-day basis and hope
for a chance to play. At press
time the Towns County game
on Tuesday was still sched
uled, but further updates
were unavailable. Today’s
game with Social Circle is
still expected to be played,

com. Commerce has several
possible rain dates to make
up the games — Oct. 5, Oct.
7, or Oct. 9.
So far this season, the
Lady Tigers are 5-8 overall
with two wins and two loss
es in region competition,
making them fourth in the
standings following Prince
Avenue (15-2; undefeated
in region play), Hebron
(8-5 overall; 3-1 region) and
