and there are lots of ways
for kids to earn buttons. As
readers progress through
the On Your Mark, Get Set,
Go! levels, they receive a
new button to celebrate
each noteworthy achieve
ment. Fitness Friday partic
ipants earn a button when
they break a sweat in the
Memorial Garden.
Program participants can
earn a camera button when
they read on vacation (or
at the pool, the park, or at
home) and send the library
a picture. Additionally, there
will be mystery buttons days
throughout the summer,
which provide a one-time,
supplies-are-limited oppor
tunity to earn a unique
button just for visiting the

Teen participants in the
summer reading program
are busy collecting prizes
that range from cupcakes
and ice cream to Little Italy

gift card.
SUMMER FITNESS
Kids Reading Club-Sum
mer Fitness Edition will be
held on Friday, June 10,
from 1 to 2. Children will
discuss the high-action Tiki
and Ronde Barber books.
The library has copies of
these books available at the
library for children to check
out. Kids can earn a special
button for their lanyards for
attending and will make a
craft and enjoy a snack.

Hawks, Chancey
announce wedding
Zach Hawks and Sarah Chancey have announced
their engagement.
The bride-elect is the daughter of Walter and Patricia
Chancey, of Athens. She is a 2012 graduate of East Jack-
son Comprehensive High School. She attended New
Horizon Medical Institute where she received her med
ical assistant certification. She is currently employed
with Athens Regional Medical Center at Athens Cardi
ology Group.
The groom-elect is the son of Lenn and Cindy Hawks,
of Hull. He is a 2009 graduate of Madison County High
School. He attended Gainesville Baptist Bible College
and Seminary where he received his doctorate of the
ology. He is currently the senior pastor at Community
Baptist Church in Ila.
A June wedding is planned at Community Baptist
Church.
Birth
Grayson Slade Sims
Luke and Jessica Sims of Commerce announce the
birth of a son, Grayson Slade Sims, on Friday, June 3,
2016, at St. Mary’s Sacred Hart Hospital, Lavonia. He joins
a brother, Jackson Blaze Sims.
Grandparents are Jason and Becky Young, Lavonia; Bo

SUBJECT: NOTICE OF PREPARATION AND TESTING OF DIRECT RECORDING
ELECTRONIC (DRE) UNITS, EXPRESSPOLL UNITS WITH BARCODE
SCANNERS AND OPTICAL SCAN TABULATORS FOR THE
GENERAL/NONPARTISAN PRIMARY RUNOFF ELECTION TO BE
HELD JULY 26, 2016.
DATE: June 20, 2016
The following notice is hereby given in accordance with State Rule 183-1-12-.02(3)(b)(1)(i),
183-1-12-.07(7) and Georgia Election Code § 21-2-374:
Beginning on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 9:30 a.m., at the Banks County Board of Elections
Office, 226 Candler Street, Homer, GA preparation and testing of the Direct Recording
Electronic Units (Touch Screen Voting Units), Optical Scan Tabulators and the ExpressPoll
Units with Barcode Scanners to be used during the General/Nonpartisan Primary Runoff
Election to be held on July 26, 2016 will commence. Early Mall Voting will begin June 13,
2016 and Early In-Person Voting will begin July 5, 2016.
Testing of the DRE Units and ExpressPoll Units with Barcode Scanners will be conducted
by placing the memory card or Flashcard in the DRE/ExpressPoll Units to be used for such
precinct and running a series of tests. The DRE and ExpressPoll Units with Barcode Scanners
shall not be used unless they successfully pass all prescribed tests. After successfully testing
each DRE Unit, the unit shall be cleared of any accumulated vote totals and a zero tape shall be
ran to verify that the vote registers in the DRE Unit is set at zero.
Testing of the Optical Scan Tabulators will be conducted by processing a pre-audited group
of ballots so marked as to record a predetermined number of valid votes for each candidate and
on each question and shall include for each office one or more ballots which are improperly
marked and one or more ballots which have votes in excess of the number allowed by law in
order to test the ability of the Optical Scan Tabulator to reject such votes. The Optical Scanning
Tabulator shall not be approved unless it produces an errorless count.
The testing will continue until all units are prepared and tested. This process is open to the
general public.
