Commerce library to be closed on Monday
The Commerce Public Library will be closed on Monday, July 4, in
celebration of Independence Day and will reopen Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Veterans Park
Story Walk
On Thursday, July 7, at 11 a.m., patrons are invited to come for a
story walk at the American Veteran’s Memorial Park. Participants
should wear walking shoes and sunscreen for story time around the
pond.
Earn A Lanyard Button
On Friday, July 8, from 1 to 2 p.m., the Kids Book Club will discuss
any Sports Illustrated Kids book, and participants will earn a lanyard
button. Kids will discuss their book with library manager, Angel Tug
gle, eat an athletic snack and make a homemade Olympic torch to
take home.
YA Talent Show
Young adults are reminded to sign up at the front desk for the YA
Talent show to be held on Thursday, July 14, at 6 p.m. Rehearsals are
scheduled for Saturday, July 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, July
13, from 2 to 5 p.m. Ages 10-18 are encouraged to participate.
Adult Programs
There are two special adult programs at the library next week.
“Focus on Fixed Income” is July’s topic in the Financial Fitness
series. It is presented by Jared Arrant of Edward Jones on Tuesday,
July 5, at 5:30 p.m.
Then on Wednesday, July 6, at 1 p.m., the Wellness Wednesday
program will be “Floral Design With Cut Flowers.” Roy Lawler of The
Enchanted Florist and Gifts will present the program.

Hamming it up
The Northeast Georgia Amateur Radio Club gave a HAM radio communication presentation
to a group of young adults recently at the Commerce Public Library and gave them an opportu

Dr. Daniel (Danny) Smith
will be the guest speaker at
the Banks County Historical
Society’s July 11 meeting
at 7 p.m. in the historic
courthouse in downtown
Homer.
A presentation will be
given on the Wofford family,
some of the earliest settlers
of Banks County.
A Banks County resident,
Dr. Smith is a professor
of Spanish and linguistics
at Clemson University in
South Carolina. Since child
hood, he has lived on his
father’s family’s land in
northern Banks County
which was once owned by
the Wofford family.
