Compete at state horse show
Caitlyn and Megan Burrell represented the Banks County 4-H Club in the all over the state in different riding disciplines and educational contests from
2016 State Horse Show in Perry recently, competing with equestrians from grades 4-12.

The 2016 State 4-H Horse
Show was held in Perry
from June 7-10 with eques
trians from all across the
state gathering to compete
in different riding disci
plines and educational
contests from 4 th to 12 th
grade.
Participants in the State
4-H Horse Show Educa
tional Contests have a
unique opportunity to par
ticipate in equine activi
ties without having to own
their own horse. For youth
in 4 th -12 ,h grades, they may
participate in photography,
painting, drawing, and
essay.
This year, Caitlyn Burrell
and Megan Burrell both
competed in the photogra
phy contest with their best
equine pictures. Addition
ally, there are also pub
lic speaking competitions
that youth may participate
in. Chelsea Pusbach and
Caitlyn Burrell both com
peted in the Senior Indi
vidual Demonstration cat
egory. Pusbach placed 3 rd
with her demonstration on
how to care for the older
horse and Burrell gave a
demonstration on being
successful in the Western
Pleasure classes of horse
shows.
All three members of the
Banks County 4-H Horse
Places at state show
Chelsea Pusbach, 10th grade, competed and placed in the following classes
on her horse, Just Call Me a Blue: Senior Ranch Horse Classes: first in Ranch
Sorting, fourth in Working Cow (Boxing only), fourth in Ranch Trail, fifth in
Reining, and Ground Handling. Pusbach was fifth overall high individual in
Senior Ranch Horse and qualified to compete at the Southern Regionals 4-H
Horse Show in July in Perry.
Show Team competed in
the Stock Seat Division.
Megan Burrell, 5 th grade,
competed in Cloverleaf
Showmanship In-Hand
with her horse GQ Aspen
Fashion Abbey and placed
9 th . Chelsea Pusbach, 10 th
grade, competed in Senior
Western Riding with her
horse Just Call Me a Blue.

received high honors in the

compete at the Southern
Regionals 4-H Horse Show
in July 2016 in Perry, Geor
gia.

port of their hard working
parents and families,” Cait
lyn Bennett, county 4-H
agent, states. “It takes a
lot of hard work and ded
ication to be successful in
the show ring, and these
4-H’ers proved that they
worked hard throughout
the year through their suc
cesses. “

Commerce schools announce 2016-17 supply lists
Commerce’s primary elementary and mid
dle schools have posted their supply lists for
the upcoming 2016-17 school year as follows:
Commerce Primary School
Kindergarten: four small glue sticks,
two boxes 24-count Crayola crayons, two
regular-size boxes of tissues, two refill packs
of baby wipes, two Lysol or Clorox wipes, one
box gallon-size Ziploc bags, one box snack-
size baggies, one container hand sanitizer,
24 pencils, a pencil box and a standard back
pack to store school papers, a folder and a
jacket. Rolling book bags are not acceptable.
Parents should also ask their child’s teacher
if the child will need one Five Star by Mead
5-subject spiral notebook, multiple colors
of Post-it Flags, a two-prong notebook and
jumbo glue sticks.
First grade: six glue sticks, one pack
age yellow pencils, one pair of scissors, two
24-count boxes of crayons, one four-pack Expo
dry erase markers, one school tool box, two
boxes of tissues, one box Clorox wipes, two
spiral notebooks, an eraser top pack and a box
of sandwich-size or gallon-size Ziploc bags.
Optional items include a roll of paper towels,
a can of Lysol, additional Ziploc bags, a pump
container of hand sanitizer.
Second grade: two packs No. 2 pen
cils, two wedge erasers, four glue sticks, two
one-subject wide-ruled spiral notebooks, a
16-count pack Crayola crayons, four Expo
markers, disinfecting cleaning wipes, four
boxes tissues, one red and one blue plas
tic two-pocket folders (without prongs) two
one-gallon, one-quart or sandwich-size Ziploc
bags, a four-color set of highlighters.
Commerce Elementary School
Third grade: two 24-count packs of cray
ons, pencils and erasers, two packs wide-ruled
loose leaf paper, four glue sticks, Classic Brand
markers, scissors, highlighters, a pencil bag,
one pack of copy paper, four spiral-bound
notebooks, one plastic expanding portfolio
with at least six sections, three boxes tissue
paper, a container of hand sanitizer and ear
buds.
Fourth grade: two packs wide-ruled loose
leaf notebook paper, two packs wooden No.
2 pencils, two package of erasers for pen
cil ends, a five-section plastic accordion-style
Expand-A-File, a 24-pack (or larger) box of
crayons, ear buds, four 200-page marble cover,
wide-ruled composition notebooks, three large
boxes of tissues, one package baby wipes
and one bottle hand sanitizer. Parents should
remember that all book bags must fit in a lock
er that is 11 inches wide by 40 inches tall.
Commerce Middle School
Fifth grade: two packs of tab dividers
(LA, Math, and Reading), one box of 24 count
crayons (Science), one pack of markers (Sci
ence), two three-subject spiral notebooks (Sci
ence/LA), one pack of colored pencils (Social
Studies), a two-inch binder (Reading/Social
Studies), a plastic three-prong folder (Read
ing), two boxes of tissues, plenty of pencils and
paper, a sketchbook (8.5x11 or larger), a pack
of Crayola or Prismacolor colored pencils (12
or more), a handheld pencil sharpener, a ruler
and two No. 2 pencils.
Sixth grade: one l.Sinch binder to hold
large package of loose leaf college ruled paper,
one three-hole pencil pouch containing a large
eraser, scissors, pencils, a hand-held pencil
sharpener and ear buds; and to be given to
the homeroom teacher—five different colored
highlighters, a pack of loose leaf construction
paper, college ruled notebook paper, colored
pencils, a pack of pencils, liquid glue, two
boxes of tissues and hand sanitizer. For Lan
guage Arts, one Five Star by Mead 5-subject
spiral notebook, multiple colors of Post-it Flags,
a two-prong notebook and jumbo glue sticks.
For reading, one Five Star by Mead five-subject
spiral notebook, multiple colors of Post-it Flags,
a two-prong notebook and jumbo glue sticks.
For Math, a 200-page composition notebook
and a plastic coated pocket folder. For sci
ence, a 200-page composition notebook and a
five-subject spiral notebook. For Social Studies,
a 200-page composition notebook.
Seventh grade: pencils, extra graphite
(mechanical pencils), a large eraser, blue
or black ink pens, college ruled notebook
paper, four composition notebooks, two 1.5-
inch binders, two two-inch binders, an Expo
dry-erase marker, an 8.5 by 11-inch or larger
sketchbook, Crayola Crayons, a ruler, a pack
of colored pencils and highlighters. Also, to be
given to the homeroom teacher—copy paper,
tissues and dry erase markers. Students are
also asked to have ear buds.
Eighth grade: four one-inch binders, two
packs of 10 tab dividers, graph paper, a spi
ral-bound notebook with at least 150 pages of
8.5x11 paper, two composition books, a pack
of glue sticks, a multipack of highlighters, a
supply of pencils with erasers, notebook paper
for binders, an ink pen, scissors, a pencil
pouch, hand sanitizer, tissues, an 8.5x11 or
larger sketchbook, a 12-pack or larger colored
pencils, a handheld pencil sharpener, a ruler
and two No. 2 pencils.
