Commerce Police Department
Two burglaries reported, but
thieves apprentty get very little
Baldwin police
investigate Cantrell
Lane burglary
Officers of the Commerce
Police Department are inves
tigating a pair of burglaries
that happened last week, but
it appears that the burglars
got little for their effort.
Someone drove a fork
lift through the back wall at
Miller and Miller Sales, State
Street on June 28. The forklift
had been parked in the back
of the business. In addition to
the wall, the incident caused
damage to a four-wheeler.
The owner could not
determine if anything had
been stolen. There was no
estimate on the cost of the
damage.
The other incident took
place at an apartment on
University Drive where a cou
ple came home to find their
back door forced open.
The owners were unable
to determine if anything was
missing, but police found
evidence that the door had
been pried open.
Other Incidents
Other matters requiring
involvement by Commerce
police during last week
include:
• battery at a Cedar Drive
residence. A man told police
he was at the residence, sit
ting down and talking, and
when he looked away “a
dude hit him.” The victim
said the perpetrator had pre
viously threatened his wife
and had greeted him before
he sat down. A witness said
the suspect on the Sunday
before the incident threat
ened to slap her and that he
had a big knife at the time.
• recovery of a lost or sto
len cell phone. A woman at
a Madison Street residence
said she found a cell phone
near the property line. She
told an officer that the resi
dence adjacent to hers had
been broken into recently
and speculated that the cell
phone might belong to the
person who broke into her
neighbor’s building.
Arrests
Also last week, Com
merce police made four
arrests, three of them on
outstanding warrants.
They include:
• Alicia Marie Valen
tine, 28, 165 Homer Street,
Commerce, simple battery.
Police arrested her as they
investigated a report from a
witness that he saw arguing
and a door getting kicked in
at a Homer Street address.
When police arrived, they
found Valentine upset and
crying. She explained that
she got into an argument
with her boyfriend, pushed
him and stmck him, at which
time he pushed her back
and left. An officer got per
mission to search the house
and found a small amount
of marijuana. Police advised
the man, who owned the
residence that they would
not charge him, gave him
a warning and advised him
not to let others bring mari
juana into his residence.
• Amy Marie Hill, 36,11550
Hwy. 38, Covington, arrest
ed on a probation violation
as an officer investigated
two vehicles in the parking
lot of Quality Foods at 1:18
a.m. The officer determined
that a male and female were
working on the vehicles and
asked both for their identifi
cation. Dispatch advised the
officer of the warrant on Hill
from Walton County.
• Tarsha Renna Bailey, 39,
108 Hickory Street, Com
merce, arrested on a war
rant related to a bad check
as officers investigated a
walk-in report of a case of
battery. Bailey was a witness
who turned out to have an
outstanding warrant from
Jackson County.
•Alisa Crumley Anglin,
54, 67 Hickory Street, Com
merce, arrested on a failure
to appear warrant issued by
Madison County after police
conducted a traffic stop on
the car she was driving.
(Incidents and arrests
recorded after noon on Fri
day, July 1, are not includ
ed, thanks to the Indepen
dence Day holiday. They
will be published in the July
13 issue.)
