Congratulations to Bridget Ivey
on the birth of her son, Grayson
Lee Ivey, on June 21 at Athens
Regional Medical Center. He
weighed six pounds, two ounces
and was 20 A inches long. He
is the grandson of Michelle Har
ris of Gillsville and Melvin Ivey
of Lula. Great-grandparents are
Harold and Arlene Ivey of Lula,
Pat and the late Jerry Harris of
Gillsville and Donald and the late
Sandra Couch of Gainesville. The
proud aunt is Breanna Ivey and
uncle is Brock Ivey.
Congratulations to Chris and Felicia
Bruce on the birth of their daughter,
Autumn Grace on June 23 at 5:30 p.m.
She weighed four pounds, nine ounces
and was 18 inches long. She is joined by a
proud big brother, Abel Jeremiah
Torrince, 4, and sister, Kaylee
Ann Bruce, 2. She is the grand
daughter of the late Kathy and
Young Bruce of Banks County
and Ward and Cindy Torrince of
Cumming. She is the great-grand
daughter of Irene Pace and the
late Horace Pace and the late
Carlton and Trilla Mae Bruce
Anita and late Pat Hixenbaugh,
Gertie Beachum and Ward Torri-
ance Sr.
A very special congratulations
on the promotion of Lt. Col Christopher
Shawn McClure. He was promoted two
weeks ago and will be moving back to
the states soon. We are so proud of you,
Tonya, Tucker and Bella thanks for your
service and your families service. They
will be relocating to Drum, N.Y., very
soon. We are praying for safe travels. You
and Tonya have done such a great job and
made Banks County very proud.

Celebrating Independence Day
The Commerce Public Library celebrated the 4th of July early on Thursday, June 30, with a special visit
from the American Legion Post 56 out of Jefferson and Post 163 out of Statham.
775 registered for Commerce

There are 475 children,
135 teens, and 165 adults
registered in the Com
merce Public Library’s
summer reading program.
Prizes for children and
teens will be awarded until
school starts on Aug. 5, so
there is still plenty of time
to take part. There will be
many more drawings for
adult prizes, as well, so
keep reading.
The grand finale for
summer reading is Thurs
day, July 14, at 11 a.m. and
again at 11:30 a.m. Bear
Hollow Zoo will pres
ent the same program at
each time so patrons can
choose the most conve
nient time.
Zookeepers will intro
duce the children to many
of the animals that live at
the Zoo.
Teen Variety Show
The Teens Variety Show
is Thursday July 1,4 at 6
p.m. Rehearsals are Satur
day July 9, at 1 p.m. and
Wednesday, July 13, from
2 to 5 p.m.
New Friends Fundraiser
The Friends of the Com
merce Library are intro
ducing a new fundraising
initiative called “Own a
Week” at the Library. To
kick off the program, from
June 27 to July 17, the
library will spotlight Mayor
Clark Hill’s personal jour
ney and his service to the
community. Patrons are

Jordan Nelms joins U.S. Army
Jordan Nelms has joined the United
States Army under the Delayed Enlistment
Program.
The program allows new recruits to delay
reporting for basic military training for up to
270 days while they finish their educations
and prepare for their military careers. He
will report to Fort Benning for basic training
in August.
Nelms is the son of Wendall and Leslie
Nelms of Athens and is a 2016 graduate of
East Jackson Comprehensive High School.
After completion of basic training, Nelms
may receive advanced individual training
in a career job specialty prior to being
assigned to a permanent duty station.
Maysville organization
hosting car show July 9
The Maysville Community Club will hold a free car show
and movie in town on Saturday, July 9.
The car show begins at 5 p.m. and the movie begins at
dark. Concessions will be available.

Classes start August 25th so turn in your application today.
What we do: CASA volunteers visit their assigned child at least once a month, attend court
hearings, and gather information so they can tell the judge what is in the best interest of the
child.
Time Commitment: All training is free and consists of 15 hours of in person training and 15
hours of online classwork and 10 hours of court observation.
Classes begin August 25th, 2016 and continue on
Thursdays through September 29th.
