Shoplifters' vehicle strikes security
guard as they flee from store
Shoplifters leaving a Banks
Crossing store struck a secu
rity guard who was attempting
to get the tag number of their
vehicle.
The security guard was on
a Segway when he was struck.
He told a deputy with the Jack-
son County Sheriffs Office
that he was not injured and the
Segway was not significantly
damaged.
The guard was called to a
store when an employee said
two women were possibly
shoplifting in the store. The
employee gave a description
of the vehicle they left in and
the guard approached it to get
the tag number.
Other incidents reported to
the Jackson County Sheriffs
Office last week include the

according to an incident
report filed at the Jackson
County Sheriffs Office. The
man said someone smeared
dog feces on his van and left
a soiled diaper on the wind
shield.

when a man who then broke
the windows in his home.

Jefferson, woman said “100
cows” were in her yard. When
the deputy arrived, the woman
said the owner had already
retrieved the cows.

juvenile daughter was talking
on the road near their home
when two men approached
her with one grabbing her and
attempting to choke her. She
said her daughter got away
from them and ran home.

address when a man was
found sleeping in vehicles.

• a accidental gunshot at a
Hwy. 330, Statham, location
when a man was heading out
to go raccoon hunting with he
shot himself in the foot.

men at a Peach Street North,
Nicholson, residence.
•A Hwy. 334, Athens, man
said someone dumped 20 to
30 tires on his property.
•An Upland Drive, Mays
ville, woman said someone
attempted to open her locked
mailbox.
•A woman said she was
drugged while at a restaurant
with a man and then raped.

Court, Maysville, residence
when a padlock was removed
from the door of the home.
•A Brockton Road, Nichol
son, man said someone put
garbage in his outdoor trash-
can.
Baldwin police
report four arrests
The Baldwin Police Department reports the recent arrests of
four people.
Those arrested and their charges include:
• Richard Leon Armour, 38,4008 Crane Mill Road, Cornelia,
disorderly conduct. Armour was arrested following a domestic
dispute at a King Street residence.
•William Trent Goss, 41, 111 Hopes Circle, Demorest, driving
under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and failure to maintain a
lane. Goss was arrested during a traffic stop on Highway 365.
•Levi-Austin James Gunn, 20, 157 Vies Drive, Cleveland,
creating a hazardous or offensive condition, driving with a sus
pended driver’s license and an equipment violation. Gunn was
charged during a traffic stop on Willingham Avenue when his
vehicle was stopped because a brake light was out.
• Devin Stone Vaughn, 22, 182 Lone Wolf Way, Clarkesville,
DUI - alcohol, failure to maintain a lane and an open container
violation. Vaughan was stopped on Highway 365 for failure to
maintain a lane.
•Matthew Monroe Pitcher, 42, 514 Stirling Ridge Road,
Grovetown, obstructing law enforcement officers, possession
of marijuana and possession and use of a drug-related object.
Pitcher was arrested during a vehicle safety checkpoint on Dun
can Bridge Road at Industrial Boulevard.
INCIDENTS
The Baldwin PD recently responded to the following inci
dents:
• theft by taking at a Baldwin Court Apartments residence.
• harassment at Hulsey’s Towing.
• an assist to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and
the U.S. Marshals at a King Street residence, where a wanted
person was located.
• an assist to the Cornelia Police Department in checking
and clearing the Tim’s Pharmacy building.
• threats by phone at a Willow Tree Apartments residence.
• an assist to the Banks County Sheriffs Office with a vehicle
fire on Apple Pie Ridge Road at Baldwin Heights.
• an assist to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office with a
burglar alarm call at a Red Hawk Lane residence.
W. Jackson wreck kills one
A man was killed in a West Jackson wreck on July 6.
William Howard Reed, 74, of Oakwood, died in the sin
gle-vehicle wreck, on SR 53 near the Hunting Hills Subdivision.
His 1995 Pontiac Grand Am, was traveling south on SR 53 when
it left the roadway on the west shoulder and traveled down an
embankment.
Reed was pulled from his vehicle after being entrapped.
He was transported to the hospital, where he died.
The West Jackson Fire Department, Jackson County EMS
and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the
wreck, which occurred around 8:05 p.m.
Reed was the only person in the vehicle.
