“St. Mary’s NICU
works miracles.”
Isabelle was born 15 weeks early, weighing
1 pound, 15 ounces. Her parents, Chrissy and
Joseph, feared for her life. With the technology,
expertise and love of the doctors and nurses of
St. Mary’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Isabelle
thrived. Today, she is a happy, healthy 1-year old.
St. Mary’s level II NICU provides lifesaving
care for infants who need extra care, from minor
illnesses to life-threatening conditions such as
premature birth. In tune with the natural rhythms
of day and night, St. Mary’s NICU is a warm,
soothing place for love and healing.

“I couldn’t be happier. She’s our
little miracle. It’s a miracle how
St. Mary’s NICU works.”

A Candid Talk
with Mark Savage,
Candidate for Banks County Coroner
Q: Mark, were you surprised
to find out you were in an elec
tion runoff for Banks County
Coroner?
A: Well, I'm honored that folks
thought enough of me to vote
for me as one of the top two
candidates! But I look on this
runoff as a blessing because I have the opportunity
to visit with more people across our county. Even
though I've lived in this area all my life, I didn't real
ize just how hard it is to try to visit with all the citi
zens of our county. These extra few weeks before
the runoff have given me the opportunity to see
more people and find out what their concerns are.
Q: Banks County is growing and there are a lot
of new residents here and many Banks Countians
don't really know you or your opponent. Tell us a
little bit about you.
A: Banks County is my home. My wife of 27 years,
Kim, and I have raised our chil
dren here so I have a vested
interest in its future. I have lived
in Maysville my entire life and
we attend Homer Baptist
Church. For 24 years, I was
employed with the Jackson
County Sheriff's Office on a part
time basis, serving in many
capacities. And I was also employed with the Hall
County Fire Services for over 26 years, retiring in
2014. Currently, I am employed with Northeast
Georgia Medical Center in the Medical Transport
department. In addition, I have also served as a vol
unteer fireman for the Maysville Fire Department
and Banks County Fire Department for 30 years.
Q: That's an impressive resume - you're obvi
ously qualified professionally to serve in this
office. But why should the citizens of Banks
County trust you in this position?
A: Frankly, the office of Coroner is one that most
folks don't think about all that much.... until a
tough event happens and a coroner's services are
needed. First and foremost, credibility and a trans
parent office are important to me. Next, I think if
you ask people who have known me my whole
life, they will tell you that I am a highly compas
sionate and reliable person. Thirdly, I take pride in
being truthful and genuine as well as being
detailed and accountable. My only goal as Banks
County Coroner is to serve with integrity and
dependability.
Q: How will you balance the duties of the coro
ner's office with limited budget
resources from the county?
A: I am aware of what the
county offers, which is pretty
small compared to some of the
county's larger offices. We
should be able to open the
office up to some federal and
state grants for better equip
ment without impacting the
local county budget. The Coroner's Office is eli
gible for state and federal assistance for equip
ment, supplies, training, etc. I hope to start the
grant writing process and acquire resources that
will help Banks County.
Q: When we go back to the polls in July, why
should we vote for you instead of your oppo
nent?
A: If you're asking me to bad-mouth my opponent,
you've come to the wrong place because that's
just not who I am or how I operate. Many people
came to me and asked me to run before I seriously
considered seeking this office. My goal as your
coroner is simply to ensure that office is executed
in the most comprehensive and fiscally responsible
manner. We've got to plan for the future - the
growth and challenges that Banks County faces.
And yes, I do believe I'm the best person for the
job. If I didn't, I wouldn't be running for the office.
Q: Mark, bottom line.... why should I vote for
you for Coroner on July 26?
A: I have spent my adult life in public safety, serv
ing people in need. My wife says it's my true call
ing and I agree. I've always been inspired by the
men and women who serve their fellow citizens
and pursuing the office of Banks County Coroner
is an additional way I can help my neighbors. I am
the right person to serve as the next coroner for
Banks County. I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and
go to work for our county and I would appreciate
your vote on July 26. My only promise is to make
people proud that they supported me.
