Commerce Police Department arrests
Six add failure to appear
to prior Commerce charges
The Commerce Police
Department introduced six
people last week to the cost
of failing to show up for their
court dates.
The subjects, most of
whom had failed to appear
in court for traffic offenses,
were arrested during the past
week after being stopped for
other offenses or after having
their IDs mn for any number
of reasons.
In such cases, the defen
dants must not only pay the
fine for the original offense,
but also $100 for the bench
warrant. They cannot get
bond a second time.
Those charged with failure
to appear include:
•Kathryn Cooper Robin
son, 65, 5799 Thompson Mill
Road, Hoschton, who police
pulled over on North Broad
Street because she was not
wearing a seat belt. Jackson
County dispatch advised that
Robinson was wanted on a
failure to appear warrant out
of Jackson County, and the
officer turned her over to a
Jackson County deputy for
transport to the jail.
• Demetria Dena Franklin,
41, 360 Kathryn Lane, Com
merce. An officer respond
ing to an accident on Pine
Avenue was advised by dis
patch that Franklin was the
subject of a warrant from
Commerce for failure to
appear on an original charge
of a second driving under the
influence (DUI).
•Glenn Anthony
Chastain, 46, PO. Box 357,
Lula, who was incarcerated
in the Habersham County
Jail because of the failure to
appear warrant from Com
merce. An officer picked him
up there and took him to the
Jackson County Jail.
• Crystal Sosebee, 39, 544
Little Rock Road, Cleveland,
picked up from the White
County Jail following her
arrest at a traffic stop in
White County.
•Robert Wesley Lalonde,
45, 3380 East Gate Drive,
Cumming, picked up from
a Franklin County deputy at
the T/A Truck Stop at Banks
Crossing. After a family
member came to the police
department to pay Lalonde’s
fine, he was released.
• Kellisha Richman Harris,
33, 105 Sussex Drive, Apt.
2, Athens, picked up at an
Atlanta Highway, Athens
location, from an Oconee
County deputy. The arrest
report noted that Harris “was
extremely upset and crying
about the situation.”
Others Charged
Other people arrested or
cited by Commerce police
during the past week include:
•Eric Thomas Simmons,
35,624 Madison Street Exten

his residence by officers who
had been given information
that he had an outstanding
felony warrant from Madison
County. One of the officers,
who knew Simmons, found
him in the back yard and
Simmons surrendered with
out incident, after which he
was transported to the Mad
ison County line and turned
over to the Madison County
Sheriff’s Office.
•Zhen R. Linn 53, 309
Williford Street, running
a stop sign and driving
with a suspended driver’s
license. An officer stopped
him after Linn allegedly
ran a stop sign at Williford
Street and South Broad
Street. Dispatch advised
that Linn’s license was sus
pended for being a super
speeder.
•Timmy R. Worley, 53,
2578 Athens Highway, Jeffer
son, driving with a suspend
ed license, driving a vehi
cle without a valid tag and
giving false information to
police. The officer stopped
Worley at the intersection
of Old Maysville Road and
Mt. Olive Road because of
the expired tag. According
to the arrest report, Worley
said he did not have his
license or insurance card
with him and gave the offi
cer the name Bobby Worley
and a 1957 birth date. For
reasons not enumerated on
the arrest report, a detec
tive advised dispatch to run
the name Timothy Worley,
and the information came
back that his driver’s license
was suspended. He even
tually admitted to his real
name. The arrest report also
indicated that police took
Worley back to the police

Night Out Aug. 2
Seeking improved community relations, the Com
merce Police Department will join the National Night
Out program on Tuesday, Aug. 2, with a block party at
the Boys and Girls Club.
“It’s a community crime prevention program,” reports
Capt. Ken Harman. “On one night, police departments
host block parties to interact with their citizens, to get to
know people better and to have a good time. The focus
is to establish relationships that can serve to prevent
crime and improve communities.”
The event, featuring free hot dogs, drinks, inflatables,
games for the kids and displays, will take place from
6:30 p.m. to 9 in the field adjacent to the Boys and Girls
Club.
According to the program’s web site, National Night
Out was created to increase awareness about police
programs in communities, ranging from drug preven
tion to crime watches.
In the light of recent high-profile shootings of black
suspects by police and the recent attacks killing police
officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, police departments
all across the U.S. are considering ways to restore
tmst and confidence between citizens and police.
The Commerce Police Department, for example, is
stressing “community policing,” in which officers make
a concerted effort to meet, talk with and get to know
members of the community. It held its second “Coffee
with a Cop” event today (Wednesday) as part of that
effort, and it’s held a couple of community forums, with
others planned.
The National Night Out program occurs annually on
the first Tuesday in August, although a few agencies
hold their events the first Tuesday in October.
Body identified
as Max McLinn
The Georgia Bureau of
investigation confirmed last
week that the body recov
ered Thursday morning, July
7, off Ila Road is that of Max |:_
McLinn, who was reported
missing after last being seen
on June 27.
“This positive identification
was made through fingerprints
of the deceased,” reports
Commerce police Brandon
Sellers. “At this point in time,
the death seems to be of nat
ural causes and we do not suspect any foul play. There
were no obvious signs of trauma to the body and stories are
consistent when our investigators have talked to the last few
people to see him alive. We will not have an exact cause of
death until toxicology reports are complete, which could be
months down the road.”
Commerce police found the body within 500 feet of an
abandoned rock quarry. McLinn had last been seen in that
general area.
