School
Nine new staff members
coming to Commerce High School
Commerce High School
students will see several new
faces among the faculty mem
bers when school starts on
Friday Aug. 5.
The new staff members
include:
Leland Alexander
Leland Alexander is the
new band director for both
CHS and Commerce Middle
School. He is a graduate of
West Georgia College and
University and comes to CHS
from Eagles Landing Christian
Academy in McDonough,
where he was the assistant
director of bands.
Alexander completed his
internship at Fayette County
High School and previously
served as the instructor of the
Carrollton High School Band.
Courtney Boehlke
Courtney Boehlke will
teach science. She has
a master of arts degree in
science education from the
University of Georgia and
has taught science at Cedar
Shoals High School, Jeffer
son High School and, most
recently, Monsignor Dono
van Catholic High School.
Hannah Howell
Hannah Howell will join
CHS as a math teacher.
She is a 2016 graduate of the
University of Georgia where
she majored in mathematics
and minored in computer sci
ence.
This will be her first year of
teaching.
Nathaniel Lawrence
Nathaniel Lawrence will
teach English. He holds a mas
ter’s degree from the Universi
ty of Georgia and taught two
years at Carter High School in
Knoxville, TN, and one year at
Green County High School in
Greensboro.
Paige Puckett
Paige Puckett is the new
ESOL (English as a second
language) teacher. She holds
a bachelor’s degree in educa
tional psychology a master of
arts degree in teaching and a
specialist in education degree
in leadership and administra
tion.
She is certified in the areas
of ESOL and gifted education.
She taught at Walton County
for three years and in Jefferson
for 12 years.
William Smith
William Smith is the new
assistant principal at CHS.
Originally from Wrightsville,
he graduated from Johnson
County High School and is
a 1994 graduate of Georgia
College in Milledgeville, where
he majored in business and
minored in education.
Smith also earned a mas
ter’s degree in educational
leadership from the American
College of Education in India
napolis, IN. He comes to CHS
from Kathleen High School in
Lakeland, FL, where he was
dean of students.
Christen Shiflet
Christen Shiflet will be
the new Healthcare Science
teacher. She is a graduate
of Habersham County High
School and North Georgia Col
lege and State University.
She served two years at
Georgia HOSA, Inc. in Wat-
kinsville and four years at
Sandy Creek High School in
Tyrone as a Healthcare Sci
ence teacher.
Warren Standridge
Warren Standridge will
teach physical education at
CHS. He will also be an assis
tant football coach and will
coach the girls’ golf team.
Standridge has a bach
elor’s degree from the Uni
versity of Georgia, a master’s
degree from the University of
Alabama and a specialist in
education degree from Lin
coln Memorial University in
Tennessee.
He has previously worked
in Banks County Clarke Coun
ty and Jackson County.
Jeremy Waller
Jeremy Waller will teach
English and serve as an assis
tant football coach at CHS.
He has a bachelor’s degree
from the University of Geor
gia, a master’s degree from
Troy State and a specialist in
education degree from Lin
coln Memorial University in
Tennessee.
His previous experience
has been at Greene County
High School in Greensboro
and Oglethorpe County High
School in Lexington.
Commerce schools release supply lists
Late-registration info
for Commerce High School
The 2016-17 school year will start on Friday, Aug. 5, and
Commerce High School principal Donnie Drew urges
parents of high school students new to the system and
who did not register during early registration to set up an
appointment for registration.
They should call Angie Ingram at 706-335-5500. Ingram
will forward the appropriate information to CHS counselor
Joy Scott, and someone from the counselor’s office will
contact parents to set up an appointment from 8 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. on July 27, 28 or 29.
Parents of students entering CHS from Commerce Mid
dle School do not need to register, as their information has
already been sent from the middle school.
Class Schedules And Parking Permits
CHS students may get their class schedules for the first
semester and parking permits from Student Services as
follows:
•Seniors, Tuesday, Aug. 2, 1:30-3 p.m.
• Juniors, Wednesday, Aug. 3, 8:30-10 a.m.
• Sophomores, Wednesday, Aug. 3, 10:30 a.m. to noon
• Freshmen, Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1:30-3 p.m.
Students unable to pick up their class schedules at the
designated times can get them from their homeroom advi
sors during open house on Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 5 to 7
p.m. or from their homeroom advisors on the first day of
school, Friday, Aug. 5.

have posted their supply lists for
the upcoming 2016-17 school
year as follows:
Commerce Primary
School
Kindergarten: four small
glue sticks, two boxes 24-count
Crayola crayons, two regu
lar-size boxes of tissues, two
refill packs of baby wipes, two
Lysol or Clorox wipes, one
box gallon-size Ziploc bags,
one box snack-size baggies,
one container hand sanitizer,
24 pencils, a pencil box and
a standard backpack to store
school papers, a folder and a
jacket. Rolling book bags are
not acceptable. Parents should
also ask their child’s teacher if
the child will need one Five Star
by Mead 5-subject spiral note
book, multiple colors of Post-it
Flags, a twoprong notebook
and jumbo glue sticks.
First grade: six glue
sticks, one package yellow
pencils, one pair of scissors,
two 24-count boxes of crayons,
one four-pack Expo dry erase
markers, one school tool box,
two boxes of tissues, one box

Commerce Elementary
School

four spiral-bound notebooks,
one plastic expanding portfolio
with at least six sections, three

Commerce Middle School
Fifth grade: two packs
of tab dividers (TA, Math, and
Reading), one box of 24 count
crayons (Science), one pack
of markers (Science), two
three-subject spiral notebooks
(Science/LA), one pack of col
ored pencils (Social Studies),
a tweinch binder (Reading/
Social Studies), a plastic three
prong folder (Reading), two
boxes of tissues, plenty of pen
cils and paper, a sketchbook
(8.5x11 or larger), a pack of
Crayola or Prismacolor colored
pencils (12 or more), a hand
held pencil sharpener, a ruler
and two No. 2 pencils.
Sixth grade: one 1.5-inch
binder to hold large package of
loose leaf college ruled paper,
one three-hole pencil pouch
containing a large eraser, scis
sors, pencils, a hand-held pen
cil sharpener and ear buds;
and to be given to the home
room teacher — five different
colored highlighters, a pack of
loose leaf construction paper,
college ruled notebook paper,
colored pencils, a pack of
pencils, liquid glue, two boxes
of tissues and hand sanitizer.
For Language Arts, one Five
Star by Mead Ssubject spiral
notebook, multiple colors of
Post-it Flags, a twoprong note
book and jumbo glue sticks.
For reading, one Five Star by

book, multiple colors of Post-it

Math, a 200page composition

notebook. Social Studies, a 200-
page composition notebook.
Seventh grade: pencils,
extra graphite (mechanical
pencils), a large eraser, blue
or black ink pens, college ruled
notebook paper, four compo
sition notebooks, two 1.5-inch
binders, two tweinch binders,
an Expo dry-erase marker, an
8.5 by 11-inch or larger sketch
book, Crayola Crayons, a ruler,
a pack of colored pencils and
highlighters. Also, to be given to
the homeroom teacher—copy
paper, tissues and dry erase
markers. Students are also
asked to have ear buds.
Eighth grade: four one-
inch binders, two packs of 10
tab dividers, graph paper, a
spiral-bound notebook with at
least 150 pages of 8.5x11 paper,
two composition books, a pack
of glue sticks, a multipack of
highlighters, a supply of pencils
with erasers, notebook paper
for binders, an ink pen, scis
sors, a pencil pouch, hand san
itizer, tissues, an 8.5x11 or larger
sketchbook, a 12-pack or larger
colored pencils, a handheld
pencil sharpener, a ruler and
two No. 2 pencils.

Open House for BCHS upperclassmen is Aug. 4
Open House for upper
classmen will be on Thurs
day August 4, from 3 p.m.
to 5 p.m.
Students will be able to
pick up schedules and meet
teachers. All parents are
invited as well.
Locker and parking per
mits will also be available for
purchase during this time.
Parking and locker permit
applications must be signed
by a parent and are available
in the front foyer of the high
school. The fee for a locker
is $5 and parking permits
are $40.

fees owed must be cleared
in order to receive a sched

BCHS freshman cookout set next Tuesday
The fourth annual fresh
man cookout/open house will
be held Tuesday Aug. 2, from
2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the fresh
man wing of Banks County
Comprehensive High School.
Students will be able to pick
up schedules, meet the fresh
man faculty and take an infor
mal tour of the high school.
A hot dog dinner will be
provided at no cost.
The school news deadline
