Local Happenings,
The north and northwest are air¬
ing their furs for a blizzard they
expect to encounter Friday. The
weather man says zero for them.
Mr. W. C. Logan of Blue Ridge
district spent one night in town
last week, and while in our "sanc¬
tum” informed us that the pros¬
pects for the establishment of a
star route from Cleveland to Blairs,
ville was now very favorable.
Mrs. J. M. Miller has been in
Atlanta for a few days with her
son, Frazier, who was treated there
for rheumatism some weeks ago and
was greatly improved. lie is not
now suffering from rheumatism but
has been troubled with other ser¬
ious afflictions.
Joe Cleveland, colored, shot two
of his dogs Saturday, beleving
them to be affected with hydropho¬
bia.

ed to North Carolina Tuesday.
Mr. Fred Palmer arrived in town
Tuesday, and will be here for a
short time.
Airs. Brakefield, wife of Mr.
Brakefielu, the cashier of the Far¬
mers & Merchants Bank, arrived
ill town Friday. They are stop¬
ping at the Yonuh House.
It is to be hoped that the town
authorities will give us some sort
of improvement in our sidewalks
ns early as possible.we are not par
ticlar what we get if it is reasona¬
bly dry.
Dr. E. C. Wellborn hos sold Iris
residence in Cleveland to Mr. J. B.
R. Barrette. Dr. Wellborn contem¬
plates moving to Helen where he
now has a good practice in the den¬
tal business.
Mr. R. T. Kenirner received a
car of good mules this week, and

in Cleveland Monday and Tuesday
with a drove. If you want a good

Written charges were made Sun¬
day against two members of the
Methodist church at Cleveland, the
charges being read Before the con¬
gregation at the ii o’clock services.
A committee on investigation was
appointed to report on the next
fourth Sunday. The Rev. Patter¬
son stated in effect, that until fur¬
ther investigation proved the truth
of the statements, he would make
no names public, and did not. read
the names of the persons charged.
The charges as read were made
against the members for dancing,
dancing being contrary to the rules
governing the Methodist Church,
and which read as follows :
“That it is contraay to the spirit
•of the Discipline and of the New
Testament to teach the art arid
science of modern dancing any¬
where, or to practice promiscuous
dancing anywhere.”
Rev. D. S. Patterson followed
with a scathing attack on the prac¬
tice of dancing, which, he told his
congregation, had a very great ten¬
dency to lead downward, and end
many of its partiepants in shame.
Mrs. N. A. Ledford, who was
one of a committee recently ap¬
pointed to raise funds to paint the
inside of the church, was so dis¬
gusted with the action of the
church, that upon Monday moating
she visited all who had contributed
to her her solicitation and returned
their money, which amounted to a
total of about $io.
