tion. The theme for this year’s
event is "The Color of Unity.”
The year 2009 marks Dr.
King’s 80 th birthday and 23 rd

Police Blotter
The Millen Police Depart
ment (MPD) reported the fol
lowing incidents this week.
Wednesday, Jan. 7
• MPD deputies investigated
an armed robbery at the Dairy
Queen when an employee re
ported that she was surprised by
someone as she exited the busi
ness establishment at approxi
mately 10:40 p.m. The em
ployee said that someone came
from behind her vehicle as she
came out the door and de
manded that she give him her
purse. The perpetrator was
wearing a white mask, white t-
shirt and blue jeans and hold
ing a gun. She complied and
yelled for help as the suspect ran
southeast into a wooded area.
The incident remains under in
vestigation.
Friday, Jan. 9
• A U.S. Highway 25 South
resident reported that an un
known offender poured a clear
liquid over her vehicle as it was
parked in the parking lot of one
of the local schools.
• Kendly Washington of 530
Buckhead Road was charged
with driving under the influence
of alcohol, failure to maintain
lane, driving without a driver’s
license and stop sign violation.
Saturday, Jan. 10
• An Oak Hill Church Road
resident reported that a tree he
was attempting to cut down fell
across power lines on Academy
Avenue.
