JCHS Eagles win one, lose two
The Jenkins County High
School varsity baseball team
came away from a three-game
week with one win and two
losses.
The Eagles defeated Bryan
County 14-6.
Leading hitters were: Aaron
Comstock 2-4 with a homerun;
Josh Lee 2-4 and two RBI’s;
Dontavous Young 1-2 with
three runs scored; and Spen
cer Clark 1-3 with two walks.
“It was a great win on the
road at Bryan County. The
playing conditions were tough
for the pitchers. Will Bragg
started the game but got in
jured in the first inning. Trevor
Weathersby, Will Brinson and
Aaron Comstock all came on
in relief. We are now 4-1 in the
region,” commented Coach
Wendell Clark.
The Eagles fell 12-2 to
Aquinas.
Leading hitters were Trevor
Weathersby 2-3; Spencer
Clark 2-3; Aaron Comstock 1-
2 with a homerun; and Aaron
Tanner 1-2.
“Non-region games are al
ways the wildest because you
are looking for different
things. It’s a good time for
young pitchers to try and
prove themselves to the
coaches. Aquinas had a good
group of hitters. Will Brinson,
Race Weathersby, Aaron Tan
ner and Jonathan Mays all saw
pitching action,” said Coach
Clark.
The Eagles lost to Savannah
Christian 8-1.
Leading hitters were Dag
Gay 2-3 and Spencer Clark 1-
3.
Aaron Comstock pitched a
pretty good game giving up
only three earned runs with
four strikeouts going all seven
innings. We had our work cut
out for us against a very good
team, said Coach Clark.
Lady Eagles track team finishes third
The Jenkins County Lady
Eagles track team finished
third in the track meet held at
Swainsboro March 21.
“It was an outstanding team
performance for the Lady
Eagles,” said Coach Chuck
Sanders.
Screven County and
Swainsboro finished first and
second, but the Lady Eagles
defeated Metter, Jefferson
County, Tattnall County,
Hawkinsville, Toombs County
and East and West Laurens.
Coach Sanders said, “We are
getting better and better with
each meet and seem to be gain
ing the experience we need to
be in excellent shape for a run
at the region title in a few
weeks.”
Finishing high for the Lady
Eagles was Deondra Lewis,
1st in the discus and shot put;
Chelsea Taylor, 4 th in the dis
cus; Ay ana Walker, 1 st in the
100 and 200 meter races and
6 th in the long jump; Zandra
Lake 1st in the 300 hurdles,
4th in the 100 meter hurdles
and 4 th in the triple jump.
Both relays teams finished
in good shape, the 4 x 100 re
lay of Deondra Lewis, Zandra
Lake, Margaret Dickens and
Ayana Walker finished in sixth
place and the 4 x 400 team of
Shae Burke, Zandra Lake,
Margaret Dickens and Ayana
Walker finished fourth in their
race.
“This was an excellent meet
for the Lady Eagles. The other
schools were bigger class
schools and the Lady Eagles
held their own”, stated Coach
Sanders.
