JROTC Drill Team finishes on top
The Jenkins County High
School JROTC Drill Team
wrapped up their season May 2
by finishing as the top school
from Georgia and the #4 school
in the nation at the National
High School Drill Team Cham
pionships Open Level Color
Guard competition in Daytona
Beach with 45 teams entered
from 29 states.
The War Eagles from Jenkins
County finished 105 points be
hind this year’s National Cham
pion and last year’s defending
National Champion, Alamo
Heights High School, from San
Antonio, Texas.Only 48 points
divided Jenkins County from
last year’s Master’s Level run
ner-up, Ronald Reagan High
School, also from San Antonio
Texas, and a three time Western
Division All Army Champion in
2005, 2006, runner-up in 2007
and Champion again in 2008.
The third place team, Lancaster

team Ronald Reagan. There
were three other schools from

Eagles come close in state play-offs
The Jenkins County High
School Eagles played hard, but
came up short in the state play
offs.
Game #1 saw the Eagles defeat
GMS 5-1.
Leading Hitters were: Aaron
Tanner 3-3, 1 RS; Aaron
Comstock 3-4, a double, 4 RBI;
Spencer Clark 2-4; and Will
Bragg, Will Brinson and Dag
Gay, 1-3.
“Trevor Weathersby pitched a
complete game getting the win
with seven strikeouts, no walks,
four hits and one run. It was a
great win stalling off the three
game series,” commented Coach
Wendell Clark.
The Eagles lost game #2 to
GMC by a score of 6-5.
Leading hitters were: Aaron
Comstock 3-3, home ran; Spen
cer Clark 2-3, a double; Dag Gay
2-3, 2 SB; Houston Bowers 2-4;
Will Bragg, 1-3, homerun; and
Will Brinson 1-3, a double.
“Aaron Comstock pitched a
great game giving up only six
hits. Five of the six runs were
earned. You can not say enough
about how well the defense
played all weekend,” said Coach
Clark.
Members of the Jenkins County High School baseball team at the state play-offs are, from
left, first row: Keith Lairscy, Josh Lee, Trevor Weathersby, Houston Bowers, Josh Sipes
and Jeffery Daniels; and second row: Coach Bobby James, Jake Knight, Akeem Young,
Marquette Young, Dag Gay, Dontavious Young, Will Bragg, Aaron Comstock, Juice,
Spencer Clark, Coach Wendell Clark, Aaron Tanner and Will Brinson. (Photo contributed)
Game #3 saw the Eagles fall
again to GMC in a hard fought 4-
3 battle.
Leading hitters were: Spencer
Clark 2-4; Will Bragg, Will
Brinson and Aaron Tanner, 1-2;
and Aaron Comstock and Dag
Gay, 1-3.
“Aaron Comstock and Trevor
Weathersby combine for a gut
wrench seven inning of giving up
only six hits, one walk, and three
earned runs. I cannot say enough
about the fan support. It was like
a wave of blue with all those t-
shirts in the stands and up on the
banks. That’s as hard as I’ve seen
our players play for themselves
and the fans. It meant a lot to
them. We are moving on to the
sweet sixteen,” said Coach Clark.
