Opinions, yours and ours
The Chatter Box
By Deborah Bennett
The Millen News will be closed Monday, May 25, in obser
vance of Memorial Day. We will reopen 8 a.m. Tuesday, May
26. Our normal deadlines will be observed for next week’s
edition with the exception of advertisements. All classifieds,
legal ads and display ads for the May 27 edition should be
turned in by 4 p.m. this Friday, May 22.
I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday!
If you have travelled on Winthrope Avenue the past week,
you are well aware that the street is in the process of being
paved. I had never given much thought as to how conveniently
Winthrope Avenue connects with the rest of our city streets-
until last week.
Navigating through the center of town is a little more chal
lenging while this work is in progress. The “back streets” pro
vide good alternative routes, and you can eventually get to
where you want to go. It is kind of like chiving through a maze
though.
So goes the price of progress! We will enjoy the ride on
Winthrope when the work is completed.
Happy birthday this week to: Elizabeth Fleming, Joely Mims,
Mark Schwonke, Milton Godbee Jr. Velma S. Bragg, Steve
Burke, John T. Herrington Jr. and Pat Bolton.
Celebrating wedding anniversaries are: Mr. and Mrs. Steve
Burke and Mr. and Mrs. Matt Brinson.
