Seniors exercise with new bikes
Planters Electric Membership
Corporation (EMC) helped the
Jenkins County Senior Citizen
Center purchase two recumbent
exercise bikes through the Opera
tion Round Up grant so seniors
can remain active. The center has
two stationary bikes already, but
the recumbent bikes are easier to
ride and less stressful on the
body.
The grant was part of the nearly
$15,000 disbursement during the
past quarter. The grant funds are
made possible by Planters EMC
members that volunteer to round
up their electric bill to the near
est dollar amount, and the pen
nies left over support the projects.
Other groups receiving project
funding were veterans, Jenkins
County 4-H, adults earning their
GEDs and chronically and termi
nally ill children. Nonprofit or
ganizations interested in receiv
ing grants should submit grant
applications for the next round of
disbursements before the dead
line July 10. For more informa
tion, visit www.plantersemc.com
or call (478) 982-4722.

Is Your Child
Struggling?
Is your child having problems in school? Does he/she have difficulty listening, fol
lowing directions or doing homework? He/she may fight frustration every day and
may even have been called lazy, unmotivated or a “student at risk...”
PACE can identify and successfully treat learning
problems that are often reflected in the following
behaviors:
• Is unable to sit still; cannot stay on task for any length of
time; is easily distracted
• Avoids work that seems complicated or hard
• Has difficulty comprehending and remembering
• Has problems sounding out words
• Does written work very slowly; often faHs to complete task
• Has difficulty copying material; constanHy looks up and
down
• Often needs instructions repeated
• Has trouble reading and speUing
• Makes reversals - for example: confusing the words “was”
and “saw” or the letters “b” and “d”
• Is disorganized and frustrated when studying
• Makes frequent, “careless” errors
Alma Jewell watches as her son, John,
works on some of his PACE procedures.
Mrs. Jewell says that, “John has felt
totaUy successful in the classroom after
starting his PACE training. He is
enthusiastic about his work and always
reminds me before school when it’s
‘PACE DAY’!”
