Local school board members complete training
Jenkins County School Su
perintendent Melissa Williams
recently recognized Jenkins
County Board of Education
(BOE) members for success
fully completing board member
training activities sponsored by
the Georgia School Boards As
sociation. Receiving certificates
of recognition at the August 17
meeting of the BOE were
Carroll Gay, chairman;
Roderick Campbell, vice-chair
man; Freddie Brinson, Roy
Cook and Irene Drummer.
Georgia was among the first
states in the nation to require
that local school board members
receive training to ensure qual
ity educational leadership.
Board members receive training
on topics such as Georgia’s
Quality Basic Education Act
(QBE), budgeting and financ
ing, legal and policy issues,
school and community relations
and the roles and responsibili
ties of the school board.
“By participating in training
and board development activi
ties, local school board mem
bers show their dedication to
improving the educational sys
tem for the students within their
communities,” said Mrs. Will
iams. "Life-long learning
doesn’t just apply to our stu
dents; it applies to all of us, es
pecially those in a leadership
role in public education.”
