In Memoriam
Church News
In Memory of Hillary Tucker
On his 76 th birthday Sept. 26
It’s so hard to believe that you’re really gone,
And to know that we will no longer.
See your smiling face.
Or hear the sound of your laughter.
You left so many memories, which will never part.
You will always live deep inside our hearts.
We are thankful that God graced us,
With someone as special as you.
It’s just hard to believe.
Your life on Earth is really through.
Lovingly missed,
Wife and Children

Barrow votes to extend
unemployment benefits
Congressman John Barrow
voted this week to extend un
employment insurance ben
efits for American families
who have been hit hardest by
the recession. The Unemploy
ment Compensation Act of
2009 will provide immediate
assistance by extending relief
to the estimated 314,000
workers who would otherwise
exhaust their unemployment
benefits by the end of this
month, and one million more
whose benefits would run out
by the end of the year. This
will especially help Georgia
families, where the unem
ployment rate is one of the
highest in the nation.
“When a mom or dad loses
their job, the whole family
suffers,” said Barrow. "It’s
taking longer than ever to get
a new job, and we need to
take care of those folks
who’ve lost their jobs through
no fault of their own. This
money will also help bring
our local economy back on
track because the folks who
receive these benefits will be
spending the money to buy
groceries, put gas in their
cars, and make their mortgage
payments on time.”
The extension will provide
immediate, effective stimulus
to the local economy. The
Congressional Budget Office
has cited unemployment ben
efits as one of the most cost-
effective forms of economic
stimulus. Every dollar spent
on unemployment benefits
generates $1.63 in new de
mand, according to Moody’s
chief economist Mark Zandi.
The extension is fully paid
for, and strengthens reporting
requirements to reduce unem
ployment insurance overpay
ments.
The legislation will help
families in at least 27 states
with the highest unemploy
ment rates, including Geor
gia, where it is hardest for
workers to find employment.
Workers in these states who
have exhausted or will soon
exhaust their benefits will be
eligible for an additional thir
teen weeks of insurance, up to
a total of 46 weeks.
“The economy is slowly
turning around, but the unem
ployment rate is still too
high. This extension will help
millions of folks out while
they wait for jobs to open up.”
