Millen woman killed in 2-vehicle accident

Standing water in the roadway
has been determined as the
cause of a fatal 2-vehicle acci
dent that occurred Monday. Dec.
14, on Ga. Hwy. 121, just north
of Hooks Road in Jenkins
County.
A Georgia State Patrol spokes
person said that Lillie Delores
Lee, 57, of Millen was killed
when the northbound vehicle
she was driving hit water in the
road and spun out of control into
the southbound lane where it
collided with a vehicle driven by
Thelma Hooks, 72, of Millen.
Hooks was also injured in the
accident and both women were
transported to the Jenkins
County Hospital by Jenkins
County Emergency Medical
Services personnel.

MPD seeks
armed robber

The Millen Police Department (MPD) is asking for the
public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted in connec
tion with an armed robbery that occurred around 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Cash Now convenience store on East
Winthrope Avenue.
The male suspect was wearing bright red pants, a black face
mask and a baby blue stocking hat. He fled the store on foot,
running toward Lovett’s Hill.
Anyone who may have seen the suspect or who has infor
mation regarding the incident should contact the MPD at (478)
982-2750. Informants may remain anonymous.

Pooler man
charged in
shooting
Michael Paul Lane, 33, of 4 Bluelake Blvd., Pooler, has
been arrested in connection with the Friday, Dec. 18, bur
glary of a 340 Cleveland Avenue residence in which the owner
of the residence was shot.
A Millen Police Department (MPD) report
indicates that the resident arrived home at
approximately 5 p.m. to find his home being
burglarized. As the victim entered the resi
dence, he was held at gunpoint by the intruder
who attempted to coax the victim inside the
residence. The victim was shot once in the
face.
Lane was arrested by MPD officers on
Hendrix Street, approximately one block
from the residence.
The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services
personnel to the Jenkins County Hospital where he was treated
and released.
Lane was charged with aggravated assault, burglary, aggra
vated cruelty to animals, possession of a firearm during the
commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a con
victed felon. Additional charges against Lane are pending in
connection with other burglaries in the area.
The firearm used in the Dec. 18 burglary, which was re
trieved during a search of the area Saturday morning, was
reported stolen during a burglary on College Avenue that oc
curred earlier last week. Several items connected to recent
burglaries were also found in an abandoned house on Cleve
land Avenue where Lane appeared to be living.
Lane is being held at the Jenkins County Jail pending fur
ther court action.
