HOMER, BANKS COUNTY, UA., THURSDAY, FEB. 0, 1890.
THE BELTON, HOMER AND
CARNESVILLE
RAILROAD
IS NOW A CERTAINTY.
Hie Belton, Homer A Caraeß
ville Railroad is assuming a
business-like appearance. .
Hie meeting called by the
moneyed men of Banks and
Franklin counties, and such
men as Hu ice. Cogging, Quil
lian and Faulkner frem Bel
ton, means something more
than mere jesting.
This, is indeed, the oppoylu
nity for Homer and Carnes
jjwille, for the G. C. A N. is push
mg its way rapidly to Atlanta
from the North, and is parallel
wit In he R. A*b., and there cer
tain!? will be no ether compet
ing line between.
It remains for the people of
Batiks and Franklin to seize
the oportunity now to connect
I their interests with the world,
for others are wide-awake, and
may border our counties with
branch roads, as did the North
eastern, and the honest labor
ing people continue to be serfs
for other sections.
The location of Homer and
Carnesviile and their natural
advantages will secure to their
occupants magnificent moun
tain cities.
The timber through which
the proposed road will pass,
will add immensely to the tax
able property of the two coun
ties, and will enhanca the val
ue of the town property along
the line, -w hich will make the
most fogy citizen laugh at his
simplicity, when lie knew not
of the present age.
The increase in the value of
tarin lands will so astonish the
weary laborers that they will
wonder why they did not build
a railroad y ears ago, and those
who own mineral wealth will
be astounded at the millions
they have been trampling un
der foot, seeking to gain the
production of plenty from the
fertile soil. An effort will be
made to complete this line on
THE FIRST TUESDAY IN
MARCH, and to say that the
meeting will be an important
cue, only means gain or loss to
the people of the two counties.
Let every thinking man be
present. Your help is needed.
Come and help turn the wheel
of progress that has been sleep
ing for ages.

It was tire pleasure of Mr.
J. A. Byar and the writer to
visit Harmony GnD Frida;.
While there we met Prof. Walk
er, who informs us that the ma
triculation of his school now
numbers 110. The professor
is a deserving young man. If
scholarship and energy will
win, the Harmony Grove Acad
emy is bound to be a success
under the care of Prof. Walker,
An exchange says if you are
a kicker and see the shadow ol
a failure in everything that is
proposed to help the town, for
Heaven’s sake go out into
some secluded canyon and kick
your own shadow down the clay
banks and thus give the men
who are working to build up
the town a chance. One long
faced, chronic kicker can do,
more to keep away business
capital from town than all the j
drouths, short crops, chintz
bugs and cyclones combined.
While in Harmony Grove
last week we heard a man say
he didn’t believe there was a
man in Ranks county' ihat
could beat the present sheriff.
We told him the sheriff was aw
ful popular. He said he knew
Rill was going to make a good
officer when he voted for him,
and was willing to try him
again. We ask him if he didn’t
believe the sheriff’s vote would
be larger this time? He said
it would. Then we told him
how the sheriff slipped Tom
Langston from a lynching hist
fall. He said he knew Bill.
While in Harmony Grove
Friday we noted quite a joke
at Dr. Hardeman’s expense. A
young man from the country
carried him a note. In giving
(he doctor tiie note, he made a
mistake and gave him a sub
poena. He was puzzled as be
read the espislle and began to
