Again, after an elapse of
sturdy winter, the jovial dram
mer made his appearance
TV eTuesday morning—three in
a bunch. The boys have a dis
like for a place where they are
not toasted and dined on roast
beef, fried chicken, ham and
eggs. In consequence of this,
they “lit out” before twelve.
Homer is not used to “sich.” It
would bankrupt her. Ilut we
don’t blame the drummer. II
we had an abdomen like some,
we would fill it if he we had to
do like Davy Crockett—fill it
with hay.
The “yaller” bear made his
appearance at the court house
Tuesday evening. At first we
thought lie was hunting a law
yer to plead his case. But af
ter his iirensy master seated
himself on the curbing and
tooted Ids horn, our opinion
was changed. The citizens,
the school children and their
teacher flocked to the scene.
Had Gabriel Mowed Ids trump
et he couldn’t have summoned
a more surprised and awe
stricken crowd. Why the old
folks came from timir winter’s
retreat. There lay bruin on
his native earth, stretched out,
his-yaller” wool bushy with
time and travel. The old fel
low was evidently tired, iiis
nigger feet showed they had
carried Bruin many a mile—
perhaps he had sailed the “bid
ny deep” from South America
to Italy and back, lie had seen
Ins master's native country.
But. life was not all over, ne
had come to Homer. The deni
zens had turned loose every
thing to welcome Bruin and
in tokens of his appreciation
for their presence, at the com
mand of lus master’s gibberish
tongue lie danced and gave
an occasional grunt, nis side
waltzing was immense. We
thought of that Carnesville
ring-tailed coon. If he had
been there to waltz with Bru
in! Thus limner has been greet,
ed with a bear; the little girl
and the little boy have given
him their last nickel, and per
haps some of the old ones too!
