AGRICULTURAL. Indian Cos 'n: —The finest lead for steers 1 hat you could possibly imagine is indian eorn-fodder, cut up curly enoujli in i he fall to hve it bright and greon. If this fod der is grown so thick as to have ears about half or two-thirds the usual size upon each stalk the amount of fet'd will still be sur prisingly large, and there will still be sufficient grain to keep the ani mal thrifty even though a part of the is millet and oat straw. Such cornstalks may be fed long, or bet ter yet, should be run through the feed-cutter and deposited in feed ing boxes so constructed that the cattle can not throw out the tod dor in searching for the parts of ears. Yearlings could be main tained satisfactorily throughout the winter on corn fodder of the kind named alone, and the gains they would make dej end largely on the proportion of esr corn to fodder. Sheep for Suiety.—There have been many ups and downs in the business since my boyhood; many changes from sheep to sometliing else, and back again, and many thousand sheep have qeen slaugh tered for their pelts acd tallow alone in times of depredation, but the men who have persistently stuck to the sheep through thick and thin, improving their flocks while others were selling out or killing theirs, have in the end come out ahead every time, and have kept up the condition of their firms belter, than any other class of farmers among us. *No man ac quainted witli the situation will at tempt to controvert this assertion. If I desired to bring back into con dition a run-down or worn-out farm. I should stock it up just as heavily as it would bear with sheep provided, of course, that it was adapted to sheep. There are pieces in which shesp are pests or nuisances. But no in telligent shepherd would pasture sheep in garden or among small fruits, 'or w; uld ha turn them upon his newly seeded clover-plots any more than a dairyman would turn cows into his cornfield. His torically, the sheep clearly ranks first among useful animals, and al though they snmetimss fall into disrepute and carping charges are brought against them, they are bo Mid to go up higher in popular c. A pretty old minstrel joke is this one about “Sawyer,” There is a town called “Sawyer,” and the joke requires that there should be a railroad tunnel just outside the town, which don’t happen to be there, but a minstrel does not hes itate to construct a tunnel or a whole railroad system if necessary, i'll® talk about marriage naturally brings up the behavior of married couples ©n (heir wedding tour. “0!i, Ive been there,” says tha ©nd man—“yes; well you know the town of Sawyer?” Yes, the in terlocutor knew if. “Well, there was a couple on board the train I was on, and when we went into the tunnel he kissed her.” “How did you known that if the tunnel was dark:” “Oh, she gave it away.
