One of our citizens asked another,

That Dummy Line.
Last week’s article in the Jour
nal on the Dummy Line from Ho
mer to Lula, has been endorsed by
both places. Why not? We spoke
the truth, and. it never hurts. We
are not exhausted on tho subject—
just as fresh as a rosebud at dewy
morn,’ when such a vital interest is
at stike. We need a road—we
only lack enterprise to get it; if we
haven’t this let us get out of the
way of a world of vim, eaergy and
progress —let us take ourselves to
:i place where thrift and energy
are not in communication with us;
where we will not read of the mov
ing world/ when we die, our grave
will not have a marble tomb to con
tend with; wa will not be put on
the outside of an iron pailing fence,
there will be none, but nature may
have pitty, and by chance we may
rest under the shade of tho sturdy
oak, where the cattle, the sheep,
the goat, the hog, and even the deer
will leave the imprint of his elastic;
hoof. This we may have and noth
ing more. It will bo more t.iau we
deserve. The soldier fell on the
battlefield —no colnn to go in—not
even a tree at his head! Yet tho
battle went on—the victors won —
ihe world smiled ’mid cannon and
smoke! Every man has his battle
to tight—to the victor belongs the
worth. Then, let us be up or get
out of tho way, lest we be trampl
ed. If we moan to live and be
recognized, let us live within the
bounds of recognition: If we meant®
die without the bounds of recogni
tion, let us dia unknown—we may
