It is understood the Richmond ck Danville has a bill before the leg islature asking fora charter for a railroad rigkt-a-wav from Lula- Belton via Homer and Carnesville, thence to intersect at Elberton. Let the good work go on and bring this section out oflhe “coon ski a” rut. This is a rich secti >n, lacking intersection for develope ment with outer markets. The sermon Monday night at the Presbyterian church by Rev. S. J. i Cartledge, was interesting and j touching. Mr. Ca;l ledge selected j his sermon from St Luke, 2nd i chapter, last clause 7th verse; “Be cause there was r.o room for them in the inn.” The argument to car ry the point of illustration for the love of fesus was befitting, and commends a high feeling for the young divine. (juuunuuica Editors Journal: —We have just enjoyed a Mno sit ppr.g school at Grove Creek church in this county, tar, giit by Prof. H . F. Cash. The professor is a fine teacher. He w/itca more diagrams, and gives 'he plainest instruction. Tuesday afternoon quite a crowd gathered to the court house if* wit ness the hymeneal of Mr. Davis and Miss Nichalson of Jackson county, ’Squire Ash officiated and die boys say the ’squire smiled his Lest. The parties, it seems, had eloped and left the old folk napping. Some of the boys are trying to run Judge Hill on issuing the li cense. Now, there is no use frying to baffle the judge's feelings in a case of this kind. If Mr. Davis ev er becomes a citizen of Hanks, he will know, though he had a risk in bringing his best girl across the hills, there is a Hill among them that lie must vote for. And, while being frightened at the bark or othernlead twigs that may have de scended on his head while coming through the ash fores:, yet there is an Ash among them that he is un der life long obligations. If the public well was so arrang ed as to have a separate place for the blacks to drink, it would be a great improvement. The embar rassing position ot ihe young man bringing his lady-escort during .Presbytery to the public park for a drink of the coldest and purest water in northeast Georgia, just af ter the burly mulatto or black ne gro had drank from the same water in ihe same bucket and with the same dipper put between his thick and greasy lips, has only to be seen to be sickening and most disgust ing to the minutest spark of Cauca sian blood and refinement. The parents of Links county do not pay taxes to force their sons and daughters to drink water with the negro, and the Journal believes the matter of ihe public well in the public park has been an over sight on the part of the citizens and otlicers of Ihe county in not eon demning it ere it ever found place iu these columns.
