tutions To Press Their Causo
Before Legislature
I Atlanta. —In an attempt to avoid
friction betwon different branches of
the Htato’s system of higher educa
tion, when they go before the legisla
ture to ask appropriations for the
coming year, representatives the
vurlous educational Institutions ol
the state mot In Atlanta.
Asa result, It was decided that
none of them will ask nuy appropri
ations for new buildings this year, but
will ask substantial increases in tho
amounts granted for maintenance
The total amount to be asked under
tho program adopted recently Is sl,-
099,500, an Increase of $275,000 over
tho maintenance appropriations of
last year. Educators present at the
meeting declared that this increase
was essential in order to care for the
steady growth in the demand for
higher education among tho youth of
tho state.
Asa result of the conference, the
various institutions plan to ask the
legislature for the following annual
maintenance appropriations for the
next two-year period:
Univorsity of Georgia—sloo,ooo, in
cluding summer school, which is in
incroaso of $75,000 over the present
appropriation.
Georgia School of Techonology—
slso,ooo, an increase of $38,600.
Georgia State College for Women
at MUledgoville—No request; the
present maintenance appropriation is
$90,000.
North Georgia Agricultural college
—535,000, an increase of $8,600.
State Normal and Industrial college
nt Bowdon —$26,000, an increase of
SIO,OOO.
Georgia Modical college at Augusta
—574,500, an incroase of $25,000.
State Normal School at Athens—
sloo,ooo, an incroase of $37,000.
Georgia State Woman’s college at
Valdosta, $50,000, an increase of $lB,-
500. Also a deficiency appropriation
of SIO,OOO.
Seeks To Relieve Water Shortage
Griffin. —A mass meeting has been
called to meet at the city hall soon
for the purposo of drawing up plans
for meeting tho serious water short
age which now prevails in Griffin.
Tho commissioners some time ago
drew up a btH to Increase the city
limits to float more bonds for this
purpose, but the plan met with much
disapproval and now the commission
ers have asked the peoplo to meet
and help draw up a plan. Hon. A.
K. Maddox, local representative in
the legislature now in session, an
nounced that he would not Indorse,
or work for the passage of the city
limits extension bill as it now stands,
but will introduce it by request.

It looks a little rainy this Mon

Rev J W Gill filled his appoint
ment at this place Saturday and
Sunday and preached a fine ser
mon both days.
Protracted services will begin
at this place the fourth Sunday
at 11 o’clock, Revs J W Thomas
and Hardigree will help with the
meeting. We sure do hope to
have a good meeting.
