The Value of Good
Digestion
Is easy to figure if you know what your stomach
is worth. Kodol keeps the stomach at par value,
by insuring good digestion. Kodol cures Dyspepsia.
Kodol insures good digestion by
absolutely duplicating Nature’s
normal process, in perfectly digest
ing all food taken into the stom
ach.
While Kodol is doing this, the
stomach is resting—and becoming
strong and healthy. A strong and
healthy stomach guarantees a
sound and active brain.
The man with a sound stomach
—a stomach that is doing for the
body just what Nature intended
It to do —is the man who is always
prepared for any emergency. He
is “there with the goods.”
The man with a sick stomach, Is
a man sick all over. When the
stomach is irritated by undigested
food, the blood and heart are di
rectly affected. Then dullness, un
natural sleepiness, sick-headaches,
vertigo and fainting spells, and
even serious brain trouble develop.
Kodol will prevent these.

RESPONSIVE
'There was at least one respon
sive hearer in the crowded little
church in an English village, and
it happened this way :
Guests had arrived unexpected
ly at the country parsonage on
Sunday morning.
The weekly supply of butter
had run short, so the hospitable
host dispatches old Joe, the handy
man, to his neighbor, Mr. Paul
whose dairy always-boasted a
surplus. The parson proceeded
to church with his well prepared
sermon on some of the deep say
ings of the great apostle and was
well under way with it when old
Joe, returning empty handed,
concluded he would quietly slip
in and hear his master preach.
Just as he entered the minister
leaned over the pulpit, stretched
out his hand with a most impres
sive interrogation in voice and
manner and called out, “And
what did Paul say?” Distinctly
sounded through the church old
Joe’s reply:
He say, marster, he ain’t go
ing to let you have no more but
ter till you pay for the last you
got.”
Receipts of the foreign mission
board of the Southern Baptist con
vention for the fiscal year ending
April 30, 1909, were $460,819.97,
which is an increase of $58,000,
as compared with the preceding
year. Os the states Georgia leads
with more than $6,000. Texas
is second and Virginia third.

Eggs consumed in New York

to special effort by “tonics” and
“stimulants” doesn’t cure anything,
or accomplish any good. Neither
does dieting. Indigestion and the
serious ailments which it induces
can be averted and corrected only
by natural means.
Kodol supplies this natural
means. It performs the stomach’s
work for it—just as the stomach
should perform it—while the stom
ach takes a little rest, “for the
stomach's sake.”

THE SUMMERVILLE NEWS THURSDAY, MAY 13, 1909
Wearing Out the Soil
Fifteen years ago people in the
southwest spoke of the soil as in
exhaustible and believed they
could continue to grow paying
crops of cotton year after year
on the same soil. Following this
belief in practice has demonstrat
ed its fallacy and year by year
the lands, subjected to excessive
one-cropping, have deteriorated
until today many lands which for
merly yielded three-fourths to
one bale per aere now produces
a bare one-third; and a study of
the reports as to what it costs to
raise cotton, reveals the fact that
one-third of a bale per acre yield
and 9-cent cotton do not enable
the grower to lay up a large
share of this world’s goods.
The soil is the capital of the
farmers. It should no more be
drained of its productive powers
than should a banker tie up his
reserve fund in speculations. Ag
riculture has advanced to a stage
where it must be regarded as an
occupation for generations, and
methods must be adopted to meet
the problem. Farm houses of
the future will be substantial and
have a solidity and permanency
about them which they lack to
day. Farming has passed from
the getting-rieii-quiek retire stage
to one where a man goes on the
farm to stay the balance of his
days. Such chages necessitate
a careful study of the problems
of maintenance of fertility and
increases of population.—Farm’
and Ranch.

In Memory
Mrs. Amanda Fowler, wife of
J. W. Fowler, departed this life
April 21, 1909, at the age of 72
years.
She professed a hope in Christ
and joined the Baptist church
54 years ago, of which she lived
a consistent member until her
death. She leaves several chil
dren to mourn her loss. Her
husband preceded her to that bet
ter land, was laid to rest four
years ago. Her death has caus
ed great sorrow in this communi
ty, where her family has so
many friends.
Mrs. Fowler lived a devoted
Christian life, as her everyday
walk proved to all who knew
her. She was kind to her neigh
bors, always greeted every one
with a smile. A good Christian
woman, and those who knew her
will sincerely mourn her loss.
Her loving children and friends
did all in their power to make
her last days as pleasant as pos
sible. It was, indeed, a sad
hour when her bedside was sur
rounded by her loved ones and
dear friends to see her depart
this life.
While our hearts are made sad
to give dear Mrs. Fowler up, we
believe she is resting in the sweet
beyond. We deeply sympathize
with those who were bound to
her by the strongest and dearest
ties, and share with them the
hope of a reunion in that better
world where there is no more
sad partings.
Her body was tenderly- laid
to rest in the Lyerly cemetery to
await the resurrection morn.
“Grieve not for thy dear mother,
For Heaven is free from care;
It’s free from sin and sorrow,
Pain nor death can enter there.
“Death has called away a loved
one,
In the lonely grave to lie,
Yet her soul now is resting
In that home beyond the sky.”
Two Friends.

Miss Maude Estes.

A nervous looking man went
into a store the other day and
sat for half an hour or so, when
a clerk asked him if there was
anything he could do for him.
He said there wasn’t anything.
The clerk went away and the
stranger sat an hour or so longer,
when the proprietor went to him
and asked if he didn’t want to
be shown anything. “No,” said
the nervous little man, “I just
wanted to sit around. My phy
sician has recommended quiet to
me, and says, above all things,
I should avoid being in a crowd.
Noticing that you do not adver
tise in the home paper, I thought

I could find, so 1 just dropped in
