Prof. Rogers Re-Elected.
At a meeting of the trustees of
the Summerville school, last week
Prof. A. O. Rogres of Lexington.
Ky., was unanimously re-elected
superintendent of our school.
This action of the trustees will
doubtless, be enthusiastically ap
proved by the patrons and friends
of the school. Prof. Rogers has
not only been faithful to every
incumbent duty, but he has gone
beyond the duties usually requir
ed of a superintendent.
He has accomplished much
work in making the building hab
itable and comfortable, lie has
enrolled, since last. September,
two hundred and thirty-three pu
pils, who, under his efficient con
trol, together with the faithful
cooperation of Misses Agnew and
Allen, have done very good work
and have conducted themselves
in such manner, that any form of
severe discipline has been unnec
essary.
This is a remarkable record,
when we remember how the pu
pils have been crowded in one
small building.
Mr. Rogers is not afraid of
work. He has pub up new black
boards, put on new locks, placed
window-lights in the bell tower,
repaired the desks, oiled the chap
el floor and repaired the bridges
near the academy. He has care
fully protected our school build
ing and the property of others
adjacent to it from harm.
He has materially added to the
furnishing of the academy, and
at the close of this term in June,
the school, a. Gunn sectional book
wlil turn over, as the property of
case, sixty-six chairs, maps, books
a teachers desk, tables, stage cur
tains, etc.
Tn addition to other work, he
has faithfully .looked after the
interests of the negro school here
and we are all fortunate in hav
ing secured his services for an
other year.
With the co-operation of pat
rons and friends and a larger
school building more centrally
located, there is absolutely noth
ing to prevent, the establishment
of a first class high school in
Summerville, which will be of ;
commercial value to all the peo-I
pie, and of priceless benefit to !
our children.
Now is the time to begin this!
good work. Let us all come to .
gether as one man in this impor-1
tant issue, go to work and keep
at work until the work is ac
complished,
