TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE
MEETS NEXT WEEK
Big Educational Rally Will be
Held Wednesday
The annual meeting of the
Chattooga County Teachers’ In
stitute will be in session here
next week. The institute will
convene Monday morning and
continue for four days.
A very interesting program has
been arranged by County School
Commissioner Jones. On Tues
day at 11 o’clock Judge J. AL
Bellah will deliver an address on
“good roads, telephones and ru
ral mail delivery as a means to
good schools.’’
Commissioner Jones has ar
ranged for a big educational
rally on Wednesday, and some
of Georgia’s ablest speakers
have accepted invitations to be
present and deliver addresses.
Among those who will speak are
Judge Moses Wright, of Rome;
State School Commissioner
Pound; Dr. A. M. Soule, president,
of the State College of Agricul
ture, and Dr. W. P. Lovejoy.
Residing elder of the Dalton dis
trict.
Wednesday will be farmers day.
Dr. Soule will deliver an address
on agriculture and he is anxious
to meet as many of the farmers
of the county as possible on that
day.
Commissioner Jones extends a
cordial invitation to every one
interested in education to attend
the Institute, and help make it a
success. The farmers are espe
cially invited to turn out and
hear Dr. Soule’s address.

Bethel Sunday at eleven o’clock.
Airs. Joe Barren died at her
home in Rome last Friday morn
ing after an illness of several
weeks. She was buried at Farm
ersville cemetery Saturday. She
leaves a husband, two sons and
one daughter. A son and daugh
ter having died in the last eigh
teen months.

are falling off very badly.

How could one be quite so des
perate as to threaten to depart
these coasts if one could not own
a horseless carriage that made a
noise like “honk, honk.’’ “Oh
to be the real owner of an auto
mobile,” sighed Gene AlcWil
liams long ago, “would make me
perfectly happy.” When Mr.
King l brought his machine up
from Rome and took several spins
Gene was sure that a man who
could not own an automobile
ought to go out and hang him
self. But h<‘ was desperate when
Air. Thompson brought his ma
chine home from Atlanta. It was
then that Gene vowed he’d
have an automobile if he had to
rent one and tie it round his neck
and jump into the reservoir.
“Oh, me,” exclaimed tin* pretty
miss who heard him utter these
rash threats. “How can 1 save
him?” When there’s a will
there’s a way.’ So early Monday
morning Gene was informed that
there was an immense box for
him at the express office, bear
ing th'e name “automobile.” How
his fingers did tremble Indore he
could get to see it and there was
his heart’s desire—a real automo
bile—a tiny souvenir of Trion, Ga
All he did was to grin and bear
it.

Corner Stone of New Court Home
Will Be Laid By Officers of
Grand Lodge on the 15.
The eighth annual meeting of
the Chattooga Alasonic Conven
tion will be held here Wednes
day ami Thursday, July 14 and
15.
On the second day of the con
vention the corner stone of Chat
tooga’s new court house will be
laid by the officers of the Grand
Lodge.
Worshipful Master J. AL Rose,
who is at the head of the con
vention is now arranging a. pro
gram for the big gathering A
number of distinguished Alasons
w,d be invited to attend the con
vention, among them Grand Alas
ter Jeffries, of Atlanta, the lead
er of Georgia Alasonry. The lo
cal lodjge will meet on the third
Friday night and appoint com
mittees to make arrangements
for entertaining the visitors and
ilelegates to the convention.
Mr. Rose sends the following
notice in regard to the conven
tion.
“The Chattooga County Ala
sonic convention, will meet with
Summerville lodge No. 109, F. &
A. AL the second Wednesday and
Thursday in July which is the

“The first day will be for
transacting the business of the
convention. The second day the
corner stone of the new court
house will be laid by the officers
of the Grand lodge. They will
also confer the third degree in
llk afternoon.
“Let each lodge in the county
have a good representation on
life first day and we want every
Mason in title county to be pres
ent the second day, as this con
vention promises to be one of
Hu best we have ever had.

Trion lodge No. 188 held their
rt gular and special convention on
last Monday night. Besides a
very interesting convention it
was election night for officers.
