THE SUMMERVILLE NEWS. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1912
Orphans Home Ingathering Day
J. J. Bennett.
Our Baptist brethren have been
so interested In other matters, that
they have not given attention to the
needs of our orphans home, which
the real situation demands. The home
is in need of money for actual run
ning expenses. It will take SIO,OOO
to put us clear on this account by
January 1, 1913, besides SIO,OOO nec
essary to meet debt insurred on im
provements.
There is nothing before us to claim
special attention during the month
of December. Let us put the or
phans to the front. There has been
a growing feeling amongst us for
the last several years that we ought
all to give one day’s work as our
part in taking care of our denomina
tional family. From now until Jan
uary Ist the spirit of giving, especial
ly to those that are in need, will
be in the atmosphere. Let us in
some definite way utilize this spir
it for the good of our orphans home,
which holds the heart-strings of
more people in Georgia than any
other institution that we foster.
I call the Baptists of Georgia to
witness that there is no denomina
tional work which has more of the
real spirit of Christ in it than the
sacred enterprise of providing food
and shelter and comfort for those
who are fatherless and motherless,
and who have no home that they can
call their own, except that which we
furnish them as a denomination.
This is a call to every friend of
the orphan in Georgia to rally. On
December 15th or December 22nd,
let each one of us set apart one
day’s labor in actual money as a
special Christmas offering for our
denominational children.
This is a call to fathers and moth
ers to explain to their children what
the orphans’ home is, and encourage
them to undertake some kind of la-
I bor for which they will receive pay,
so that the money made may be giv
en by the children as the fruit of
their own labor for this worthy cause
on December 15th or December 22nd.
This is a call to pastors and super
intendents to explain to their peo
ple and to their Sunday Schools the
meaning of “Ingathering Day” and
encourage every one whom they can
influence to observe it. This is the
first urgent call that has been sent
out in the interest of our orphans
home in over a year, and 1 trust
that all the Baptists in Georgia will
heed it.

How to Bankrupt the Doctors.
A prominent New York physician
1 says, “If it were not for the thin
stockings and thin soled shoes worn
I by women the doctors would prob
ably be bankrupt. ’ When you con
tract a cold do not wait for it to
develop into pneumonia but treat
it at once. Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy is intended especially for
coughs and colds, and has won a
wide reputation by its cures of these
diseases. It is most effectual and
is pleasant and safe to take. For
sale by all dealers.
Denmark has a law that prevents
a merchant from having more than
two clearing sales a year.
Guard Your Children
Against Bowel Trouble
Many children at an early age
become constipated, and frequently
serious consequences result. Not
being able to realize his own con
dition, a child’s bowels should be
I constantly watched, and a gentle
j laxative given when necessary.
Dr. Miles’ Laxative Tablets are
i especially well adapted to women
| and children. The Sisters of
i Christian Charity, 531 Charles St.,
Luzerne, Pa., who attend many
cases of sickness say of them:
I "Some time ago we began using Dr.
I Miles’ Laxative Tablets and find that
| we like them very much. Their action
| Is excellent and we are grateful tor
I having been made acquainted with
g them. We have had good results in
| every case and the Sisters are very
I much pleased.”
The form and flavor of any tnedi
. cine is very important, no matter
who is to take it. The taste and
appearance are especially important
when children are concerned. All
parents know how hard it is to give
the average child “medicine,” even
though the taste is partially dis
guised. In using Dr. Miles’ Lax
ative Tablets, however, this diffi
culty is overcome. The shape of
the tablets, their appearance and
candy-like taste at once appeal to
any child, with the result that they
are taken without objection.
The rich chocolate flavor and
■ absence of other taste, make Dr.
Miles’ Laxative Tablets the ideal
1 remedy for children.
