Tuberculosis Control
Tuberculosis, like every other
disease can be controlled, but
only through the full under
standing and cooperation of the
public. Doctors, nurses, hos
pitals and Public Health services
can do much in carrying the
lead of control and prevention,
but in the last analysis it is the
public — the men, women and
children of the given com
munity who actually make pos-;
sible the control and preven
tion of contagious diseases.
It is a well established fact
here in Chattooga County that
tuberculosis has long been the
cause of many deaths and even
were as the cause of unhealthy
bodies. For a reason yet un
known Chattooga County lies
in what is termed the TB belt
that makes its way along the
backbone of the Appalachian
range of mountains. This belt
extends from West Virginia
into Georgia and Alabama.
The Chattooga County Health
Department, backed up by the
Regional Health offices at
Rome and the State Health De
partment in Atlanta, are doing
all they can to establish an ef
fective program of the control I
of tuberculosis. Local physi
cians and other authorities are
laboring constantly to alleviate
the suffering of tuberculosis
families, but the work of all
will be in vain unless EVERY

THE SUMMERVILLE NEWS
ment is not trying to pry into
the. personal affairs of any
family—its sole objective is to
protect such families that do
have active cases of tubercu
losis or to prevent the spread of
TB germs. No one wants tu
berculosis and these that do
have it certainly do not want to
ipread it to their families or
friends.
Every individual in Chtaooga
County that has in any way
been a close contact to g case
of tuberculosis or even suspects
that anyone in their family has
or have had tuberculosis are
urged to come by the Chattooga
County Helath Department and
report what they know. In this
way a complete file on the ex
tent of Tuberculosis in Chat
tooga County can be obtained
and at the same time proper
steps can be more efficiently
taken for the control of this
disease.
The County Health Depart
ment is a public service that
seeks to help the people of
Chattooga County to help
themselves to a better and
more healthy county. The
County Health Department is
open daily from 8:30 a. m. to
4:30 p. m. Monday through Fri
day and from 8:30 a. m. to 12:00
noon on Saturday at which
time the County Health Nurse
maintains office hours for the
convenience of these when she
is unable to see in their homes.
If YOU wish to help in the con
trol of Tuberculosis and YOU
know that you have at some or
other been a contact, come by
the County Health office at 4
Kirby St. in Summerville and
give full information or if this
is impossible call 48L Summer

Berryion Message
It’s sad to be a church mem
ber and not be a Christian. I
Peter 4-17 “For the time is come
that judgement must begin at
the house of God, and if it first
begin at us, what shall the end
of them that obey not te gospel
of God ,and if the righteous
scarcely be saved, where shall
the ungodly and the sinner ap
pear?”
Beloved, remember Jesus when
he cleansed the temple turned
over the money changers table
and drove them out. It was call
ed the house of prayer, but
made a house of thieves. God
pity a drove of church members
that fuss and quarrel and go in
to law suits over property that
is supposed to be dedicated to
the Lord. It’s a pity to know
that a man will take a stand
to fight in the church if trouble
will come. Do as Abraham and
Lot did, seperate and be friends.
People, when trouble is in the
church, where is the Lord, for
He is no author of confusion if
we get in our fuss habits and
fight in the church what has
the lost sinner got to look to for
leadership.
Surely God is not in such. But
if three will gather in His name
and agree on one thing I be
lieve He will be in the midst of
them. If you can’t get along
with your church, friends, get
out. Don’t try to ruin or wreck,
and when you get out stay out
until you get saved Then you
can get along, God help people
to keep the trouble out of the
church, let the devils crowd have
the trouble and keep it out of
the church. If you find a devil
in the A-men corner pray him
out instead or throwing him
out. Burn him with the gospel. I
never saw a devil that the Lord
could not control.
Come to the Berryton Baptist
Church. We are in a revival and
God is blessing and saving souls.
We are heard over WGWD each
Saturday 9:30 Georgia time,
Gadsden station. Address all
mail to Howard Finster, Trion
Georgia, Rt. 1. (adv)
Mind your motor manners,

Fire Protection News
By George Bishop
County Ranger
Last week Franklin Ward ac
cidentally carried some fire in
to the woods on his drag from
where he had burned a field.
Only one-fourth of an acre was
burned when we arrived.
On June 2 we stopped this
fire on the top of Sims Mt. right
at the county line. The fire
started from a bee tree that had
been left on fire several days
previously.
Stop, look and lessen grade
crossing accidents. Slow up be
fore the crossing, don’t stop
dead at all. If the train gives a
hoot for your life, so should
you.
